Dactylogyrus (Monogenea) infections on the gills of roach (Rutilus rutilus L.) experimentally exposed to pulp and paper mill effluent

Experimental exposure to bleached kraft pulp and paper mill effluent (BKME) at a concentration of 10% significantly reduced the abundance and mean number of species of Dactylogyrus on the gills of naturally infected roach, Rutilus rutilus, over a 3 week period. Seven Dactylogyrus species were recorded which differed widely in their susceptibility to the effluent. The experiment coincided with a natural spring peak in dactylogyrid infections on roach. BMKE exposure did not prevent parasite reproduction but post-larval abundance was significantly higher on control than effluent-exposed hosts. BioTIME: A database of biodiversity time series for the Anthropocene

Abstract Motivation The BioTIME database contains raw data on species identities and abundances in ecological assemblages through time. These data enable users to calculate temporal trends in biodiversity within and amongst assemblages using a broad range of metrics. As the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) celebrates its thirtieth anniversary, it is relevant to explore how understandings of children’s rights have appeared during these three decades. As a key public actor in society, the media provides an interesting field in which to study the salience of children’s rights in societal and public discussions. Thus, in this article, we examine how children’s views are represented in «Helsingin Sanomat», the main national newspaper of Finland, in 1997, 2007, and 2017. This paper explores the distribution of ‘Decadence’ ‘France’ ‘Decadent’ ‘French’ in British newspapers between 1890 and 1899 by relying on britishnewspaperarchive.co.ok It shows how the adjective was variously used in different contexts and how French Decadence was considered between 1880 and 1900.Not all 'decadence'/'decadent' was Decadent.Conversely exploring 'Décadence' in French periodicals yields different results but both digital repositories used in this research show that the noun was first used in a historical context.

Endocrine disrupter compounds removal in wastewater using microalgae: Degradation kinetics assessment

[EN] This paper describes a study carried out to determine the removal kinetics of four micropollutants (4-tert-octylphenol (OP), technical-nonylphenol (t-NP), 4-nonylphenol (4-NP) and bisphenol-A (BPA)) usually found in wastewater streams. The kinetic experiments were carried out in batch reactors containing the effluent of an Anaerobic Membrane BioReactor (AnMBR) in the presence of light, oxygen and microalgae. As the degradation process of the studied micropollutants obeyed a pseudo-first-order kinetics, the second-order kinetics for each micropollutant was then calculated. The second order rate constants for the hydroxyl radical (k.(OH)) ranged from 7.0.10(+10) to 6.6.10(+12) L.mol(-1).…
