Multi-field, multi-frequency bosonic stars and a stabilization mechanism

2021

Scalar bosonic stars (BSs) stand out as a multi-purpose model of exotic compact objects. We enlarge the landscape of such (asymptotically flat, stationary, everywhere regular) objects by considering multiple fields (possibly) with different frequencies. This allows for new morphologies ${\it and}$ a stabilization mechanism for different sorts of unstable BSs. First, any odd number of complex fields, yields a continuous family of BSs departing from the spherical, equal frequency, $\ell-$BSs. As the simplest illustration, we construct the $\ell$ = ${\it 1}$ ${\it BSs}$ ${\it family}$, that includes several single frequency solutions, including even parity (such as spinning BSs and a toroidal,…

Landé factor and lifetime measurements in even-parity Rydberg series of PbIusing time-resolved laser spectroscopy

2001

Lande gJ factors and lifetimes for the levels in the even-parity Rydberg series 6pnp (n = 9-16) and 6pnf (n = 6-12) as well as for the levels from perturbing configurations of neutral lead have been measured using laser-induced fluorescence and Zeeman quantum-beat techniques. Two-step excitation was performed in a thermal atomic lead beam. Strong perturbations in the Rydberg series are manifested both in the gJ factor and lifetime data.

Spectroscopy of193Bi

2014

An experiment aiming to study the shape coexistence in 193Bi has been performed at the Accelerator laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä, Finland (JYFL). Many new states have been found, hugely extending the previously known level scheme of 193Bi. The Iπ=292+${I^\pi } = {{{29} \over 2}^ + }$ member of the πi13/2 band de-excites also to the previously, only tentatively placed long-lived isomeric state. This link determines the energy of the isomeric state to be 2260(1) keV and suggests a spin and parity of (272+)$\left( {{{{{27} \over 2}}^ + }} \right)$. The half-life of the isomeric state was measured to be 84.4(6) µs. A level structure on top of this isomeric state was constructed. How…

Color difference threshold of chromostereopsis induced by flat display emission

2015

The study of chromostereopsis has gained attention in the backdrop of the use of computer displays in daily life. In this context, we analyze the illusory depth sense using planar color images presented on a computer screen. We determine the color difference threshold required to induce an illusory sense of depth psychometrically using a constant stimuli paradigm. Isoluminant stimuli are presented on a computer screen, which stimuli are aligned along the blue–red line in the computer display CIE xyY color space. Stereo disparity is generated by increasing the color difference between the central and surrounding areas of the stimuli with both areas consisting of random dots on a black backgr…

Power management of grid-connected photovoltaic inverter with storage battery

2011

With increased penetration of PV generation in the power grid, it becomes necessary to control the PV generation similar to the conventional power sources. Grid-connected PV systems equipped with storage batteries are capable of active power control. PV power generation can be either fed into the grid or stored in the battery. This paper presents a deterministic power management algorithm that uses closed-form approximations derived from analytical loss models. It can be configured to maximize the efficiency or the revenue in a liberalized electricity market. The battery controller emulates an optimum load-line in which the PV power is autonomously shared between the battery and the feed-in…

Diagonal space time hadamard codes with erasure decoding algorithm

2005

A major challenge in the area of space time (ST) codes is to find codes suitable for efficient decoding, thus overcoming the problem of many existing ST code designs which require maximum-likelihood (ML) decoding. A solution could be to apply single-input single-output (SISO) channel codes and theory over temporal channel fading to the multi-input single-output (MISO) code construction and classical suboptimum decoding methods. For these purposes, an ST code construction which allows the use of efficient decoding algorithms is described. We propose a concatenated code, where the inner code is the diagonal ST Hadamard (D-STH) code with Paley constructions and the outer code is an algebraic b…

Quantum Query Algorithms for Conjunctions

2010

Every Boolean function can be presented as a logical formula in conjunctive normal form. Fast algorithm for conjunction plays significant role in overall algorithm for computing arbitrary Boolean function. First, we present a quantum query algorithm for conjunction of two bits. Our algorithm uses one quantum query and correct result is obtained with a probability p = 4/5, that improves the previous result. Then, we present the main result - generalization of our approach to design efficient quantum algorithms for computing conjunction of two Boolean functions. Finally, we demonstrate another kind of an algorithm for conjunction of two bits, that has a correct answer probability p = 9/10. Th…

A parts-per-billion measurement of the antiproton magnetic moment

2017

The magnetic moment of the antiproton is measured at the parts-per-billion level, improving on previous measurements by a factor of about 350. Comparing the fundamental properties of normal-matter particles with their antimatter counterparts tests charge–parity–time (CPT) invariance, which is an important part of the standard model of particle physics. Many properties have been measured to the parts-per-billion level of uncertainty, but the magnetic moment of the antiproton has not. Christian Smorra and colleagues have now done so, and report that it is −2.7928473441 ± 0.0000000042 in units of the nuclear magneton. This is consistent with the magnetic moment of the proton, 2.792847350 ± 0.0…
