Comparing proton momentum distributions in A = 2 and 3 nuclei via 2H 3H and 3He (e,e′p) measurements

We report the first measurement of the $(e,e'p)$ reaction cross-section ratios for Helium-3 ($^3$He), Tritium ($^3$H), and Deuterium ($d$). The measurement covered a missing momentum range of $40 \le p_{miss} \le 550$ MeV$/c$, at large momentum transfer ($\langle Q^2 \rangle \approx 1.9$ (GeV$/c$)$^2$) and $x_B>1$, which minimized contributions from non quasi-elastic (QE) reaction mechanisms. The data is compared with plane-wave impulse approximation (PWIA) calculations using realistic spectral functions and momentum distributions. The measured and PWIA-calculated cross-section ratios for $^3$He$/d$ and $^3$H$/d$ extend to just above the typical nucleon Fermi-momentum ($k_F \approx 250$ …

Bodily expressions of dominance in children's reasoning : an analysis of multimodal and sociometric data

This case study explores how two Hungarian children argue for their choices in a decision- making task in which they were asked to pick objects useful on a deserted island. The study involves an analysis of the multimodal data of the video-recorded tasks, carried out as pair-work, and sociometric background data that were collected in order to build an initial understanding of the participants’ social relations. Background: Periodical cicadas (Magicicada spp.) have a life cycle that ends with the entire underground nymph population exhibiting a synchronized mass emergence to mate above ground. Previous studies have hypothesized that the periodical cicadas evolved from non-periodical cicadas by switching from a life-cycle length determined by body size to one determined by age. Varying information quality and an increase of misinformation on the Internet accentuates the importance of supporting students’ competencies to critically evaluate information. This study compared how individuals and pairs of secondary students worked to evaluate the quality of online information across two inquiry topics. Two similar studies were conducted with 140 Finnish (Study I) and 52 US (Study II) students. Students were asked to conduct an online inquiry and then write an essay about one of two topics: allowing the genetic modification of organisms (GMO) or the effects of social media on people’s quality of life (SM). Smadzeņu aktivitātes EEG novērtējums krustotās un nekrustotās disparitātes gadījumā

Diplomdarbs ir uzrakstīts angļu valodā uz 25 lapaspusēm. Tas satur 14 attēlus, 1 tabulu un 67 literatūras avotus. Binokulārā disparitāte ir būtiska mūsu trīsdimensiju uztverei. Lielākajā daļā pētījumu tik izmeklēta smadzeņu darbības disparitāte apstrādes laikā, savukārt garozas aktivitātei katra veida atšķirības laikā tika pievērsta ļoti maza uzmanība. Pētījuma mērķis ir novērtēt smadzeņu aktivitāti krustotās un nekrustotās disparitātes anaglifēšanas vizualizācijas laikā uz plakanpaneļa displeja. Krustotās un nekrustotās stereoredzes izmaiņas pēc LASIK operācijas

Maģistra darbs uzrakstīts angļu valodā uz 37 lappusēm. Tas satur 10 attēlus, 9 tabulas un darbam ir 49 atsauces uz literatūras avotiem. Pētījuma mērķis bija novērtēt krustotās un nekrustotās disparitātes stereoredzes asumu pirms redzes refraktīvās operācijas, divus, četrus un sešus mēnešus pēc operācijas. Pētījumā piedalījās 102 acu klīnikas pacienti – 65 sievietes un 37 vīrieši vecumā no 19 līdz 45 gadiem. Visiem bija miopija vai miopija ar astigmatismu. Jaunais izveidotais izkliedēto punktu globālais stereoredzes datorizētais tests dod iespēju novērtēt abus disparitātes veidus. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin eräässä päiväkodissa opettajaparityöskentelynä toteutettua uudenlaista kaksikielistä toimintaa, josta tutkimuspäiväkodissa käytettiin nimitystä kie- lipajatoiminta. Tutkimuskysymyksinä oli miten kyseistä kielipajatoimintaa suunnitel- laan ja toteutetaan sekä millaisia näkemyksiä opettajapareilla on kielipajatoiminnasta. Tutkimuskysymyksiä tarkennettiin ja rajattiin alakysymysten avulla. This study explores how students deal with material resources in their peer interaction when working in pairs in an open-ended problem-solving task. The productive use of material resources can be expected to support successful peer work. However, research into social phenomena in peer interaction is needed in order to identify and describe productive and less productive forms of dealing with material resources as students participate in open-ended problem-solving tasks.
