Meson-baryon threshold effects in the light-quark baryon spectrum

2008

We argue that selected $S$ wave meson-baryon channels may play a key role to match poor baryon mass predictions from quark models with data. The identification of these channels with effective inelastic channels in data analysis allows to derive a prescription which could improve the extraction and identification of baryon resonances.

T-odd and CP-odd triple momentum correlations in the exclusive semi-leptonic bottom meson decay

1990

Abstract We study T-odd triple momentum correlations in exclusive semi-leptonic (S l ) bottom meson decays B → D ∗ (→ D π)+ l +ν l . We define asymmetry ratios that measure these T-odd triple momentum correlation effects. We provide a careful discussion of possible unitarity contributions to the asymmetry ratios. The conclusion is that strong interaction unitarity contributions are small or, in the case of one particular T-odd observable, absent. CP-violating contributions to the asymmetry ratios would have to come from new non-standard sources as there are no standard model contributions. Possible new CP-violating contributions are parametrized in terms of an effective four-fermion hamilto…

Search for vectorlikeBquarks in events with one isolated lepton, missing transverse momentum, and jets ats=8  TeVwith the ATLAS detector

2015

A search has been performed for pair production of heavy vectorlike down-type (B) quarks. The analysis explores the lepton-plus-jets final state, characterized by events with one isolated charged lepton (electron or muon), significant missing transverse momentum, and multiple jets. One or more jets are required to be tagged as arising from b quarks, and at least one pair of jets must be tagged as arising from the hadronic decay of an electroweak boson. The analysis uses the full data sample of pp collisions recorded in 2012 by the ATLAS detector at the LHC, operating at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1). No significant excess of event…

Theoretical determination of the hadronic (g-2) of the muon

2016

An approach is discussed on the determination of the leading order hadronic contribution to the muon anomaly, $a_\mu^{HAD}$, based entirely on theory. This method makes no use of $e^+ e^-$ annihilation data, a likely source of the current discrepancy between theory and experiment beyond the $3\, \sigma$ level. What this method requires is essentially knowledge of the first derivative of the vector current correlator at zero-momentum. In the heavy-quark sector this is obtained from the well known heavy quark expansion in perturbative QCD, leading to values of $a_\mu^{HAD}$ in the charm- and bottom-quark region which were fully confirmed by later lattice QCD (LQCD) results. In the light-quark…

Semileptonic decays of light quarks beyond the Standard Model

2009

We describe non-standard contributions to semileptonic processes in a model independent way in terms of in SU(2)(L) x U(1)(Y) invariant effective lagrangian at the weak scale, front which we derive the low-energy effective lagrangian governing muon and beta decays. We find that the deviation from Cabibbo universality, Delta(CKM) equivalent to vertical bar V-ud vertical bar(2) + vertical bar V-us vertical bar(2) + vertical bar V-ub vertical bar(2) - 1, receives contributions from four effective operators. The phenomenological bound Delta(CKM) = (-1 +/- 6) x 10(-4) provides strong constraints on all four operators, corresponding to art effective scale Lambda > 11 TeV (90% CL). Depending on th…

Measurement of $B_d$ mixing using opposite-side flavor tagging

2006

We report on a measurement of the $B^0_d$ mixing frequency and the calibration of an opposite-side flavor tagger in the D{\O}experiment. Various properties associated with the $b$ quark on the opposite side of the reconstructed $B$ meson were combined using a likelihood-ratio method into a single variable with enhanced tagging power. Its performance was tested with data, using a large sample of reconstructed semileptonic $B \to \mu \dzero X$ and $B \to \mu \dst X$ decays, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 1 fb$^{-1}$. The events were divided into groups depending on the value of the combined tagging variable, and an independent analysis was performed in each group. …

Polarised quark distributions in the nucleon from semi-inclusive spin asymmetries

1998

We present a measurement of semi-inclusive spin asymmetries for positively and negatively charged hadrons from deep inelastic scattering of polarised muons on polarised protons and deuterons in the range $0.003$1 GeV$^2$. Compared to our previous publication on this subject, with the new data the statistical errors have been reduced by nearly a factor of two. From these asymmetries and our inclusive spin asymmetries we determine the polarised quark distributions of valence quarks and non-strange sea quarks at $Q^2$=10 GeV$^2$. The polarised $u$ valence quark distribution, $\Delta u_v(x)$, is positive and the polarisation increases with $x$. The polarised $d$ valence quark distribution, $\De…

The Heavy Quark Spin Symmetry Partners of the X(3872)

2012

We explore the consequences of heavy quark spin symmetry for the charmed meson-antimeson system in a contact-range (or pionless) effective field theory. As a trivial consequence, we theorize the existence of a heavy quark spin symmetry partner of the X(3872), with $J^{PC}=2^{++}$, which we call X(4012) in reference to its predicted mass. If we additionally assume that the X(3915) is a $0^{++}$ heavy spin symmetry partner of the X(3872), we end up predicting a total of six $D^{(*)}\bar{D}^{(*)}$ molecular states. We also discuss the error induced by higher order effects such as finite heavy quark mass corrections, pion exchanges and coupled channels, allowing us to estimate the expected theo…

Confined quarks and the neutrinoless ββ decay

1990

Abstract The half life of the neutrinoless double beta decay of 76Ge into the ground state of 76Se is calculated in a relativistic quark confinement model. The neutron-proton quasi-particle random phase approximation is used to evaluate the nuclear matrix elements involved in the decay amplitude. We avoid the closure approximation, but compare our results with this approximation. From the experimental half life we deduce an upper limit for the Majorana mass of the neutrino and estimate the right-handed contribution to the charged weak current.

Helicity-dependent generalized parton distributions and composite constituent quarks

2004

An approach, recently proposed to calculate the nucleon generalized parton distributions (GPDs) in a constituent quark model (CQM) scenario, in which the constituent quarks are taken as complex systems, is used to obtain helicity-dependent GPDs. They are obtained from the wave functions of the non relativistic CQM of Isgur and Karl, convoluted with the helicity-dependent GPDs of the constituent quarks themselves. The latter are modelled by using the polarized structure functions of the constituent quark, the double distribution representation of GPDs, and a phenomenological constituent quark form factor. The present approach permits to access a kinematical range corresponding to both the Do…
