Polarized parton distributions and light-front dynamics
1998
We present a consistent calculation of the structure functions within a light-front constituent quark model of the nucleon. Relativistic effects and the relevance of the covariance constraints are analyzed for both polarized and unpolarized parton distributions. Various models, which differ in their gluonic structure at the hadronic scale, are investigated. The results of the full covariant calculation are compared with those of a non-relativistic approximation to show the structure and magnitude of the differences.
Nuclear PDFs at NLO - status report and review of the EPS09 results
2011
We review the current status of the global DGLAP analysis of nuclear parton distribution functions, nPDFs, focusing on the recent EPS09 analysis, whose output, EPS09NLO, is the best-constrained NLO nPDF set on the market. Collinear factorization is found to work very well in the kinematical region studied. With the error sets released in the EPS09 package one can compute how the nPDF-related uncertainties propagate into factorizable nuclear hard-process cross sections. A comparison with the other existing NLO nPDF sets is shown, and the BRAHMS forward-$\eta$ hadron data from d+Au collisions are discussed in the light of the EPS09 nPDFs and their error sets.
The 3rd Flow Component as a QGP Signal
2004
Earlier fluid dynamical calculations with QGP show a softening of the directed flow while with hadronic matter this effect is absent. On the other hand, we indicated that a third flow component shows up in the reaction plane as an enhanced emission, which is orthogonal to the directed flow. This is not shadowed by the deflected projectile and target, and shows up at measurable rapidities, $y_cm = 1-2$. To study the formation of this effect initial stages of relativistic heavy ion collisions are studied. An effective string rope model is presented for heavy ion collisions at RHIC energies. Our model takes into account baryon recoil for both target and projectile, arising from the acceleratio…
Nuclear Parton Distributions - a DGLAP Analysis
1999
Nuclear parton distributions $f_A(x,Q^2)$ are studied within a framework of the DGLAP evolution. Measurements of $F_2^A/F_2^D$ in deep inelastic $lA$ collisions, and Drell--Yan dilepton cross sections measured in $pA$ collisions are used as constraints. Also conservation of momentum and baryon number is required. It is shown that the calculated $Q^2$ evolution of $F_2^{\rm Sn}/F_2^{\rm C}$ agrees very well with the recent NMC data, and that the ratios $R_f^A=f_A/f$ are only moderately sensitive to the choice of a specific modern set of free parton distributions. For general use, we offer a numerical parametrization of $R_f^A(x,Q^2)$ for all parton flavours $f$ in $A>2$, and at $10^{-6}\l…
THE PARTON DISTRIBUTIONS IN NUCLEONS: A QUARK MODEL ANALYSIS
1995
We use a laboratory frame description based on quark model wave functions to study the parton distributions in the nucleon. The present approach incorporates two major improvements, namely, it has the correct support and the renormalization group evolution is carried out to next-to-leading order. We obtain initially the parton distributions arising from the Isgur-Karl wave function. The failure of the latter to reproduce, even approximately, the data motivates us to analyze different scenarios, i.e. additional high momentum components and nonvanishing gluon distributions at the initial scale. We conclude that in order to understand data at various scales complex models simultaneously, it i…
Azimuthal decorrelations and multiple parton interactions inγ+2jet andγ+3jet events inpp¯collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2011
Samples of inclusive photon+2 jet and photon+3 jet events collected by the D0 experiment with an integrated luminosity of about 1fb^-1 in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV are used to measure cross sections as a function of the angle in the plane transverse to the beam direction between the transverse momentum (pT) of the photon+leading jet system (jets are ordered in pT) and pT of the other jet for photon+2 jet, or pT sum of the two other jets for photon+3 jet events. The results are compared to different models of multiple parton interactions (MPI) in the PYTHIA and SHERPA Monte Carlo (MC) generators. The data indicate a contribution from events with double parton (DP) interactions and…
Double parton interactions inγ+3jet andγ+b/cjet+2jet events inpp¯collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2014
We determine the fraction of events with double parton (DP) Scattering in a single p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV in gamma + 3 jet and gamma + b/c jet + 2 jet events collected with the D0 detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 8.7 fb(-1). The DP fractions and effective cross sections (sigma(eff)) are measured for both event samples using the same kinematic selections. The measured DP fractions range from 0.21 to 0.17, with effective cross sections in the gamma + 3 jet and gamma + b/cjet + 2 jet samples of sigma(incl)(eff) = 12.7 +/- 0.2(stat) +/- 1.3(syst) mb and sigma(HF)(eff) = 14.6 +/- 0.6(stat) +/- 3.2(syst) mb, respectively.
Properties of jets measured from tracks in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energys=7 TeVwith the ATLAS detector
2011
Jets are identified and their properties studied in center-of-mass energy root s = 7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider using charged particles measured by the ATLAS inner detector. Events are selected using a minimum bias trigger, allowing jets at very low transverse momentum to be observed and their characteristics in the transition to high-momentum fully perturbative jets to be studied. Jets are reconstructed using the anti-k(t) algorithm applied to charged particles with two radius parameter choices, 0.4 and 0.6. An inclusive charged jet transverse momentum cross section measurement from 4 GeV to 100 GeV is shown for four ranges in rapidity extending to 1.9 and co…
Multiplicities andpTspectra in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions from a next-to-leading order improved perturbative QCD+saturation+hydrodynamics…
2013
We bring the EKRT framework, which combines perturbative QCD (pQCD) minijet production with gluon saturation and hydrodynamics, to next-to-leading order (NLO) in pQCD as rigorously as possible. We chart the model uncertainties, and study the viability and predictive power of the model in the light of the RHIC and LHC measurements in central $A+A$ collisions. In particular, we introduce a new set of measurement functions to define the infrared- and collinear-safe minijet transverse energy, ${E}_{T}$, in terms of which we formulate the saturation. We update the framework with the EPS09 NLO nuclear parton distributions (nPDFs), and study the propagation of the nPDF uncertainties into the compu…
