Modulation of geraniol metabolism during alcohol fermentation

J. Inst. Brew. 110(3), 213–219, 2004 Geraniol is the main monoterpenol present in Gewurtztraminer white grapes and in some red aromatic grapes from northern Italy. During fermentation, the geraniol concentration showed a dramatic drop and a small amount was transformed into linalool and -terpineol by an acid catalysed chemical reaction. Yeast are responsible for changing most of the geraniol to citronellol through enzymatic reactions. The final aroma of wine is due mainly to both the untransformed geraniol and the formed citronellol. Many gram-negative bacteria are killed after treatment with normal serum. This phenomenon was already described in 1889 by Buchner. The serum-bactericidal effect is abolished when serum has been incubated for 30 min at 56° C. Abstract Background: Mammalian organelles of the secretory pathway are of differing pH. The pH values form a decreasing gradient: the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is nearly neutral, the Golgi is mildly acidic and the secretory granules are more acidic still (∼pH 5). Regularized Regression Incorporating Network Information: Simultaneous Estimation of Covariate Coefficients and Connection Signs

We develop an algorithm that incorporates network information into regression settings. It simultaneously estimates the covariate coefficients and the signs of the network connections (i.e. whether the connections are of an activating or of a repressing type). For the coefficient estimation steps an additional penalty is set on top of the lasso penalty, similarly to Li and Li (2008). We develop a fast implementation for the new method based on coordinate descent. Furthermore, we show how the new methods can be applied to time-to-event data.
