P5017Factors associated with a negative D-dimer test in patients diagnosed with acute symptomatic pulmonary embolism

2019

Abstract Background The recommended diagnostic strategy for suspected acute pulmonary embolism (PE) combines the assessment of pre-test probability, D-dimer level, and -if indicated- computed tomography pulmonary angiography. Purpose To evaluate the frequency and potential explanations for negative D-dimer tests in patients diagnosed with acute PE. Methods The multicentre Follow-up of Acute Pulmonary Embolism (FOCUS) cohort study prospectively enrolled 1,100 consecutive patients diagnosed with acute symptomatic PE; two-year follow-up is ongoing. The items of the Simplified revised Geneva Score and the D-dimer levels at diagnosis have been prospectively collected, but they did not necessaril…

Discordance in prognostic ability between physician assessed NYHA classification and self-reported health status in patients with acute heart failure

2021

Abstract Background Especially in patients with acute heart failure (AHF) the NYHA classification remains of uncertain representation of patients' actual health state. Alternatively, patient's subjective well-being, in terms of health-related quality of life (HRQL), showed to have an excellent prognostic ability in out clinic patients with chronic heart failure. Objectives It is unknown whether HRQL instruments can assess a more reliable prognostication in patients hospitalized due to AHF than the NYHA classification. Methods Goal Directed Afterload Reduction in Acute Congestive Cardiac Decompensation Study (GALACTIC) was a multicenter, randomized, open-label blinded-end-point trial that em…

P4550Growth differentiation factor 15 as an integrative biomarker of heart failure in patients with acute myocardial infarction

2019

Abstract Background Growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15), a stress-responsive cytokine member of the transforming growth factor-β family, is an emerging biomarker in cardiovascular (CV) diseases. GDF15 is weakly expressed in normal condition but increased in pathological situations such as inflammation, oxidative stress, and left ventricular remodeling. Recent data suggest GDF15 as a marker in heart failure (HF). Purpose We aimed to identify the determinants of GDF15 circulating levels in patients admitted for an acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods In our prospective study, all consecutive patients admitted from June 2016 to February 2018 for type 1 AMI in the Coronary Care unit …

TCT-361 Heart Team Approach to CAD Management in Patients Undergoing Elective Vascular Surgery Who Have Asymptomatic Ischemia-producing Coronary Sten…

2018

Patients undergoing peripheral vascular surgery (PVS) are at increased risk of post-op MI/death due to unrecognized CAD. Coronary CTA-derived fractional flow reserve (FFRCT) reliably identifies lesion-specific ischemia (LSI) in stable chest pain patients but has not been used in PVS patients. We

Osteonecrosis of jaw (onj): impact of italian patients, and role of italian physicians, dentists, and researchers in the growing evidence of a “new” …

2012

Purpose: Osteonecrosis of jaw (ONJ) is an uncommon but severe complication observed mostly in patients treated with bisphosphonates (BPs) for bone metastases, myeloma, osteoporosis (so called BRONJ, Bisphosphonate-Related Osteonecrosis of Jaw), but also with other drugs (bevacizumab, sunitinib, denosumab). The number of cases observed in Italy appears high in comparison with other countries and we present a review of several aspects of ONJ in Italy and the role of Italian health professionals and researchers on increasing knowledge and adequate reporting of ONJ phenomenon; Methods: Literature review about osteonecrosis of jaw (ONJ) with selection of Italian authors and publications, on year…
