Choosing Optimal Seed Nodes in Competitive Contagion.

2019

International audience; In recent years there has been a growing interest in simulating competitive markets to find out the efficient ways to advertise a product or spread an ideology. Along this line, we consider a binary competitive contagion process where two infections, A and B, interact with each other and diffuse simultaneously in a network. We investigate which is the best centrality measure to find out the seed nodes a company should adopt in the presence of rivals so that it can maximize its influence. These nodes can be used as the initial spreaders or advertisers by firms when two firms compete with each other. Each node is assigned a price tag to become an initial advertiser whi…

Image classification based on 2D feature motifs

2013

The classification of raw data often involves the problem of selecting the appropriate set of features to represent the input data. In general, various features can be extracted from the input dataset, but only some of them are actually relevant for the classification process. Since relevant features are often unknown in real-world problems, many candidate features are usually introduced. This degrades both the speed and the predictive accuracy of the classifier due to the presence of redundancy in the candidate feature set. In this paper, we study the capability of a special class of motifs previously introduced in the literature, i.e. 2D irredundant motifs, when they are exploited as feat…

Thermal modelling of the ATHENA X-IFU filters

2018

Copyright 2018 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE). One print or electronic copy may be made for personal use only. Systematic reproduction and distribution, duplication of any material in this paper for a fee or for commercial purposes, or modification of the content of the paper are prohibited. The X-IFU instrument of the ATHENA mission requires a set of thermal filters to reduce the photon shot noise onto its cryogenic detector and to protect it from molecular contamination. A set of five filters, operating at different nominal temperatures corresponding to the cryostat shield temperatures, is currently baselined. The knowledge of the actual filter temperature profi…

Digital information receiver based on stochastic resonance

2003

International audience; An electronic receiver based on stochastic resonance is presented to rescue subthreshold modulated digital data. In real experiment, it is shown that a complete data restoration is achieved for both uniform and Gaussian white noise.

Separation of Concerns and Role Implementation in the PASSI Design Process

2007

The use of design patterns proved successful in lowering the development time and number of errors when producing software with the object-oriented paradigm. In previous works we engaged the production of a tool for the reuse of patterns for multi-agent systems. Now we are fronting a new problem: automatic code generation for agents, designed with a specific methodology, with the support of design patterns and using an aspect oriented approach. In this work we present our preliminary experiences in the identification, description, production and use of aspects for multi agent systems and a tool for code production.

Rapid prototyping for micro-engineering and microfluidic applications: Recycled pmma, a sustainable substrate material

2018

Poly(methylmethacrylate), PMMA, is one of the most commonly used thermoplastics for the manufacture of micromechanical and microfluidic devices, due to its optical transparency, rigid mechanical properties, low cost and good workability in conjunction with its rapid prototyping and mass manufacturing. Recent advances in the rapid-prototyping fields have allowed the production of precise features compatible with microfluidic structures and accelerated the conversion process from bench-side to mass market. For example, to address the need for fast design cycles using material compatible with mass manufacturing, we have developed an ultrafast prototyping technique for the manufacture of multil…

Délimitation d'ensembles morphologiques par une approche multi-échelle

2008

The paper deals with the identification of the envelope of built-up patterns that we define as the limit of a morphologically coherent set through the scales. The point of view is purely morphological; it refers to a multi-scale approach. Besides the description of the context of the research (that is the urban-rural delimitation) the paper is dedicated to the presentation of the methodological principles which allow the identification of the envelope of built-up patterns. The first step of the methodology, that is the step by step dilation of a studied built-up pattern, is briefly described. The emphasis is placed on the second step of the methodology that is the identification of a thresh…

The embodied self, the pattern theory of self, and the predictive mind

2018

Do we have to presuppose a self to account for human self-consciousness? If so, how should we characterize the self? These questions are discussed in the context of two alternatives, i.e., the no-self position held by \(\textit {Metzinger (2003, 2009)}\) and the claim that the only self we have to presuppose is a narrative self \(\textit {(Dennett, 1992; Schechtman, 2007; Hardcastle, 2008)}\) which is primarily an abstract entity. In contrast to these theories, I argue that we have to presuppose an embodied self, although this is not a metaphysical substance, nor an entity for which stable necessary and jointly sufficient conditions can be given. Self-consciousness results from an integrati…

Étude d'un système de stéréo-vision hybride

2013

Resolution enhancement in quantitative phase microscopy

2019

Quantitative phase microscopy (QPM), a technique combining phase imaging and microscopy, enables visualization of the 3D topography in reflective samples, as well as the inner structure or refractive index distribution of transparent and translucent samples. Similar to other imaging modalities, QPM is constrained by the conflict between numerical aperture (NA) and field of view (FOV): an imaging system with a low NA has to be employed to maintain a large FOV. This fact severely limits the resolution in QPM up to 0.82λ/NA, λ being the illumination wavelength. Consequently, finer structures of samples cannot be resolved by using modest NA objectives in QPM. Aimed to that, many approaches, suc…
