Blue biotechnology: oil bioremediation using hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria immobilized on biodegradable membranes

A novel bioremediation system to clean up oil contaminated water was developed combining hydrocarbon (HC) degrading bacteria immobilized and polylactic acid (PLA) or polycaprolactone (PCL) membranes prepared by electrospinning. The bioremediation efficiency was tested on crude oil using highly performant HC degrading bacterial strains isolated from marine and soil environments. The membrane morphology, the microbial adhesion and proliferation were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Primary hypobetalipoproteinemias include three monogenic disorders: the relatively frequent codominant familial hypobetalipoproteinemia (FHBL), the rare recessive conditions abetalipoproteinemia (ABL) and chylomicron retention disease (CMRD). Approximately 50% of FHBL patients are carriers of mutations in the APOB gene, mostly causing the formation of truncated forms of ApoB. In some kindred, FHBL is linked to a locus on chromosome 3 (3p21), but the candidate gene is still unknown. Brain responses of dysphoric and control participants during a self‐esteem implicit association test

Previous studies have reported lowered implicit self‐esteem at the behavioral level among depressed individuals. However, brain responses related to the lowered implicit self‐esteem have not been investigated in people with depression. Here, event‐related potentials were measured in 28 dysphoric participants (individuals with elevated amounts of depressive symptoms) and 30 control participants during performance of an implicit association task (IAT) suggested to reflect implicit self‐esteem.
