Effect of Hyper- and Hypoventilation on CBF during Anesthesia
1969
Alexander and Wollman [1, 2, 4, 8], Harper [5] and McDowall and other investigators have published observations on CBF during anaesthesia in man and dog, when arterial pCO2 was altered by hyper- or hypoventilation.

A Trajectory-Driven 3D Channel Model for Human Activity Recognition
2021
This paper concerns the design, analysis, and simulation of a 3D non-stationary channel model fed with inertial measurement unit (IMU) data. The work in this paper provides a framework for simulating the micro-Doppler signatures of indoor channels for human activity recognition by using radiofrequency-based sensing technologies. The major human body segments, such as wrists, ankles, torso, and head, are modelled as a cluster of moving point scatterers. We provide expressions for the time variant (TV) speed and TV angles of motion based on 3D trajectories of the moving person. Moreover, we present mathematical expressions for the TV Doppler shifts and TV path gains associated with each movin…

Up-conversion processes in NaLaF4:Er3+
2009
abstract Structural and spectroscopic investigation of NaLaF 4 :Er 3+ material at different doping concentrations ispresented. X-ray diffraction patterns, up-conversion luminescence spectra and decay curves for 2 H 9/2 ? 4 I 15/2 , 4 S 3/2 ? 4 I 15/2 and 4 F 9/2 ? 4 I 15/2 optical transitions in the material are shown and possibleexcitation routes are discussed. Raman spectrum for the undoped material is presented and the effectivephonon energy of the material is estimated. Based on the obtained results application of rare-earth dopedNaLaF 4 in the field of up-conversion phosphors is evaluated. 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. 1. A comparative analysis between Finns and Chinese : how communication traits affect self-disclosure in intercultural friendships?
2016
Self-disclosure, or the process revealing personal information about oneself to another, plays a vital role in friendship formation and maintenance, and cultured self-disclosure has been proven to be a powerful factor influencing intercultural friendships. Substantial cross-cultural research has shown self-disclosure differs among different cultural groups, but little research has examined what factors facilitate or impede self-disclosure in intercultural friendships. This research answers this call from a communication traits perspective. The focus of this research is to compare similarities and differences between Finns and Chinese in dimensions of self-disclosure in intercultural friends…
Allosteric modulation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors as a treatment strategy for Alzheimer's disease
2000
The basic symptoms of Alzheimer's dementia, i.e., a loss in cognitive function, are due to impaired nicotinic cholinergic neurotransmission. To compensate for this impairment by drug treatment, blockers of the acetylcholine-degrading enzyme acetylcholinesterase are applied, even though this approach obviously is prone to many side-effects, including those of muscarinic nature. We have recently described a novel class of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor ligands which, similar to the action of benzodiazepines on GABA(A) receptors, allosterically potentiate submaximal nicotinic responses. The sensitizing effect is a consequence of facilitated channel opening in the presence of allosterically p…
The Saccharomyces cerevisiae Hot1p regulated gene YHR087W (HGI1) has a role in translation upon high glucose concentration stress.
2012
Abstract Background While growing in natural environments yeasts can be affected by osmotic stress provoked by high glucose concentrations. The response to this adverse condition requires the HOG pathway and involves transcriptional and posttranscriptional mechanisms initiated by the phosphorylation of this protein, its translocation to the nucleus and activation of transcription factors. One of the genes induced to respond to this injury is YHR087W. It encodes for a protein structurally similar to the N-terminal region of human SBDS whose expression is also induced under other forms of stress and whose deletion determines growth defects at high glucose concentrations. A simple and rapid DNA extraction method from leaves of grapevine suitable for polymerase chain reaction analysis.
2012
The genomic grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) DNA extraction is difficult because of secondary metabolites that interfere with DNA isolation procedures and subsequent applications. We developed a simple, rapid and efficient method for the extraction of genomic DNA from asymptomatic and pathogen-infected grape leaves. The protocol reported, based on a modified cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) extraction procedure, allowed the rapid DNA extraction from little amounts of leaf material without employment of liquid nitrogen for initial tissue grinding. The protocol included polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) to bind phenolic compounds, β-mercaptoethanol to inhibit the oxidation of polyphenols, and a h…
