The appreciation of Islamic textiles since the Middle Ages is evident in religious painting. The aim of this paper is to analyze the survival of orna…

On Extremal Cases of the Hopcroft's Algorithm

2010

In this paper we consider the problem of minimization of deterministic finite automata (DFA) with reference to Hopcroft’s algorithm. Hopcroft’s algorithm has several degrees of freedom, so there can exist different executions that can lead to different sequences of refinements of the set of the states up to the final partition. We find an infinite family of binary automata for which such a process is unique, whatever strategy is chosen. Some recent papers (cf. Berstel and Carton (2004) [3], Castiglione et al. (2008) [6] and Berstel et al. (2009) [1]) have been devoted to find families of automata for which Hopcroft’s algorithm has its worst execution time. They are unary automata associated…

Ocean acidification and elevated temperature negatively affect recruitment, oxygen consumption and calcification of the reef-building Dendropoma cris…

2019

Expected temperature rise and seawater pH decrease may affect marine organism fitness. By a transplant experiment involving air-temperature manipulation along a natural CO2 gradient, we investigated the effects of high pCO(2) (similar to 1100 mu atm) and elevated temperature (up to +2 degrees C than ambient conditions) on the reproductive success, recruitment, growth, shell chemical composition and oxygen consumption of the early life stages of the intertidal reef-building vermetid Dendropoma cristatum. Reproductive success was predominantly affected by temperature increase, with encapsulated embryos exhibiting higher survival in control than elevated temperature conditions, which were in t…

Comparative analysis of Hsp10 and Hsp90 expression in healthy mucosa and adenocarcinoma of the large bowel.

2014

Heat shock proteins (Hsps) assist other proteins in their folding and drive the degradation of defective proteins. During evolution, these proteins have also acquired other roles. Hsp10 is involved in immunomodulation and tumor progression. Hsp90 stabilizes a range of "client" proteins involved in cell signaling. The present study evaluated the expression levels of Hsp10 and Hsp90 in normal mucosa and adenocarcinoma samples of human large bowel.Samples of normal mucosa and adenocarcinoma were collected and Reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction RT-PCR, western blotting (WB) analyses, as well as immunohistochemistry were performed to evaluate the expression levels of Hsp10 and Hsp90…

Green sulphur bacteria as a component of the photosynthetic plankton community in small dimictic humic lakes with an anoxic hypolimnion

2013

High bacteriochlorophyll (BChl) concentrations in the anoxic water layers of some humic lakes have indicated that green sulphur bacteria (GSB) may be ecologically significant. The abundance and spatial distribution of GSB were therefore addressed in 13 small humic lakes using fragment analysis and sequencing of PCR-amplified 16S rRNA genes. GSB were detected from lakes where the photosynthetically active radiation was at least 1.1 µE m-2 s-1 at the oxic-anoxic boundary layer. In these lakes, 13 to 42% of the 16S rRNA gene sequences of the anoxic water column were assigned to GSB. The spatial distribution of GSB was tightly correlated with the spectrophotometrically measured BChl concentrati…

Analyses of phase change materials’ efficiency in warm-summer humid continental climate conditions

2017

The usage of phase change materials (PCMs) is a way to store excess energy pro- duced during the hot time of the day and release it during the night thereby reducing the overheating problem. While, in Latvian climate conditions overheating is not a big issue in traditional buildings since it happens only a couple of weeks per year air conditioners must still be installed to maintain thermal comfort. The need for cooling in recently built office buildings with large window area can increase signi cantly. It is therefore of great interest if the ther- mal comfort conditions can be maintained by PCMs alone or with reduced maximum power of installed cooling systems. Our initial studies show tha…

MR 2918162 Reviewed Van der Geer G. and Kouvidakis A. The Hodge bundle on Hurwitz spaces. Pure and Applied Mathematics Quarterly (2011) 7, no. 4, 129…

2012

In this paper the authors consider the Hurwitz space $H_{g, \, d}$ that parametrizes degree $d$ simple coverings of $\mathbb{P}^{1}$ with $b = 2 g - 2 + 2d$ branch points. The compactification $\bar{H}_{g, \, d}$ of this Hurwitz space is the space of admissible covers of genus $g$ and degree $d$, $f: C \rightarrow P$, where $C$ is a nodal curve and $P$ is a stable $b$-pointed curve of genus $0$. Assigning to $f: C \rightarrow P$ the stabilized model of $C$, one defines a natural map $\phi: \bar{H}_{g, \, d} \rightarrow \bar{M}_{g}$ where $\bar{M}_{g}$ denotes the moduli space of stable curves of genus $g$. The Hurwitz space $\bar{H}_{g, \, d}$ carries a natural $\mathbb{Q}$-divisor class, t…

Isolation and characterisation of Nocardioides sp. SP12, an atrazine-degrading bacterial strain possessing the gene trzN from bulk- and maize rhizosp…

2003

International audience; We report the characterisation of Nocardioides sp. SP12, an atrazine-degrading bacteria isolated from atrazine-treated bulk- and maize rhizosphere soil. Based on 16S rDNA alignment, strain SP12 showed close phylogenic relationships with Nocardioides sp. C157 and Nocardioides simplex. Internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences of strain SP12 were longer than those of other Nocardioides sp. and present Ala- and Ile-tRNA unlike Actinomycetales. Nocardioides sp. SP12 presents a novel atrazine catabolic pathway combining trzN with atzB and atzC. Atrazine biodegradation ends in a metabolite that co-eluted in HPLC with cyanuric acid. This metabolite shows an absorption spe…
