Abstract As energy availability and demand often do not match, thermal energy storage plays a crucial role to take advantage of solar radiation in buildings: in particular, latent heat storage via phase-change material is particularly attractive due to its ability to provide high energy storage density. A very important issue that needs to be solved as simply and correctly as possible is how to establish the thermal performance of phase-changing materials (PCM). The undertaken researches have analyzed the values of the thermal performances of the PCM taking into account the method of finite elements and the experimental research, respectively, based on a modern measurement system that was designed and implemented. The usage of phase change materials (PCMs) is a way to store excess energy pro- duced during the hot time of the day and release it during the night thereby reducing the overheating problem. While, in Latvian climate conditions overheating is not a big issue in traditional buildings since it happens only a couple of weeks per year air conditioners must still be installed to maintain thermal comfort. The influence of aqueous environment on the main-chain conformation (ω0, ϕ, and ψ dihedral angles) of two model peptoids: N-acetyl-N-methylglycine N’-methylamide (Ac-N(Me)-Gly-NHMe) (1) and N-acetyl-N-methylglycine N’,N’-dimethylamide (Ac-N(Me)-Gly-NMe2) (2) was investigated by MP2/6-311++G(d,p) method. The Ramachandran maps of both studied molecules with cis and trans configuration of the N-terminal amide bond in the gas phase and in water environment were obtained and all energy minima localized. Buildings integrated phase change materials: Modelling and validation of a novel tool for the energy performance analysis

In this paper a novel dynamic energy performance simulation model for the Phase Change Materials (PCM) analysis is presented. The model is implemented in a suitable computer code, written in MatLab and called DETECt, for complete building energy analyses. In the presented model, the “effective specific heat” method is implemented. Here, the specific heat of each PCM layer changes as a function of the system phase and temperature in both melting and freezing processes.
