Multi-subject fMRI analysis via combined independent component analysis and shift-invariant canonical polyadic decomposition
2014
Canonical polyadic decomposition (CPD) may face a local optimal problem when analyzing multi-subject fMRI data with inter-subject variability. Beckmann and Smith proposed a tensor PICA approach that incorporated an independence constraint to the spatial modality by combining CPD with ICA, and alleviated the problem of inter-subject spatial map (SM) variability. This study extends tensor PICA to incorporate additional inter-subject time course (TC) variability and to connect CPD and ICA in a new way. Assuming multiple subjects share common TCs but with different time delays, we accommodate subject-dependent TC delays into the CP model based on the idea of shift-invariant CP (SCP). We use ICA …
A New Oxadiazole-Based Topsentin Derivative Modulates Cyclin-Dependent Kinase 1 Expression and Exerts Cytotoxic Effects on Pancreatic Cancer Cells
2021
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly lethal form of cancer characterized by drug resistance, urging new therapeutic strategies. In recent years, protein kinases have emerged as promising pharmacological targets for the treatment of several solid and hematological tumors. Interestingly, cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) is overexpressed in PDAC tissues and has been correlated to the aggressive nature of these tumors because of its key role in cell cycle progression and resistance to the induction of apoptosis. For these reasons, CDK1 is one of the main causes of chemoresistance, representing a promising pharmacological target. In this study, we report the synthesis of new 1,2,4…
Long time behavior for a dissipative shallow water model
2013
We consider the two-dimensional shallow water model derived by Levermore and Sammartino (Nonlinearity 14,2001), describing the motion of an incompressible fluid, confined in a shallow basin, with varying bottom topography. We construct the approximate inertial manifolds for the associated dynamical system and estimate its order. Finally, considering the whole domain R^2 and under suitable conditions on the time dependent forcing term, we prove the L^2 asymptotic decay of the weak solutions.
The history behind successful uterine transplantation in humans
2017
This paper aimed to describe the basic aspects of uterine transplant (UTx) research in humans, including preliminary experiences in rodents and domestic species. Studies in rats, domestic species, and non-human primates validated and optimized the UTx procedure in terms of its surgical aspects, immunosuppression, rejection diagnosis, peculiarities of pregnancy in immunosuppressed patients, and patients with special uterine conditions. In animal species, the first live birth from UTx was achieved in a syngeneic mouse model in 2003. Twenty-five UTx procedures have been performed in humans. The first two cases were unsuccessful, but established the need for rigorous research to improve success…
The Regularized Hadamard Expansion
2017
A local expansion is proposed for two-point distributions involving an ultraviolet regularization in a four-dimensional globally hyperbolic space-time. The regularization is described by an infinite number of functions which can be computed iteratively by solving transport equations along null geodesics. We show that the Cauchy evolution preserves the regularized Hadamard structure. The resulting regularized Hadamard expansion gives detailed and explicit information on the global dynamics of the regularization effects.
Information asymmetry in the agri-food sector and territorial marks: The case of the olive oil Val di Mazara PDO
2022
This article analyzes the importance of information in the agri-food market, since the presence of information asymmetry favors market failure. This analysis ex-amines the information asymmetry in the agri-food market and its geographical brands, PDO and PGI, focusing on the Sicilian oil sector of the olive oil Val di Mazara PDO. A quality product has specific organoleptic characteristics that give it flavors, fragrances and various nutritional properties. To protect this, there are the brands that are essential to avoid that between sellers and consumers there is information asymmetry and consequently the failure of the market. In fact, through this analysis are examined the evolution of t…

Synthesis Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties of the Trinuclear Nickel(II) Complex Bis[(μ-thiocyanato-N)bis(μ-pyridazine-N1,N2)bis(thiocyanato-…
2000
Unusual single N-bridging thiocyanato and double pyridazine (pdz) bridges occur in the linear trinuclear nickel(II) complex of formula [Ni3(pdz)6(NCS)6]. The compound exhibits a quasi Curie law behavior, the antiferromagnetic coupling through the double 1,2-diazine links being nearly compensated by the ferromagnetic exchange through the single N-bridging thiocyanato.
Polypyrrole–palladium nanoparticles composite as efficient catalyst for Suzuki–Miyaura coupling
2012
International audience; Synthesis of a new hybrid material (Pd/PPy) composed of polypyrrole globules with uniformly incorporated Pd nanoparticles via direct redox reaction between pyrrole and Pd(NH3)(4)Cl-2 in water has been recently reported (V.A. Zinovyeva, M.A.Vorotyntsev, I. Bezverkhyy, D. Chaumont, J.-C. Hierso, Adv. Funct. Mater. 21 (2011) 1064-1075). In the actual study, this procedure has been extended to synthesize a series of Pd/PPy powders with variable palladium content and morphological parameters. Depending on the monomer-to-oxidant ratio in reaction mixture, average diameters of Pd and PPy particles may change in the ranges of 1.25-1.45 and 27-62 nm, respectively, the Pd conc…
Synergetic effect of gold in Au/Pd catalysts during hydrodesulfurization reactions of model compounds
2003
Abstract The simultaneous formation of colloidal dispersions of Pd and Au metal particles protected by the organic polymer polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) in reducing alcohol solution was used for the synthesis of new silica-supported monometallic and bimetallic Au x Pd y catalysts with different x / y ratios. The samples, with a 2 wt% total metal loading, after air calcinations at 673 K to remove the PVP, were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and FTIR spectra of chemisorbed CO. Formation of alloyed Au x Pd y particles of different metal composition with consequent modification of their electronic and geometric properties was ascertained. The catalytic activi…
