BODIPY atropisomer interconversion, face discrimination, and superstructure appending

International audience; A strategy was developed to append sterically hindered apical pickets on both faces of the BODIPY platform to prevent stacking and aggregation. Ortho-substitution of both the meso-phenyl ring and the boron-bound catechol affords the right directionality to append pickets, achieve face discrimination, featuring two inter-convertible atropisomers, and is reminiscent of the picket-fence strategy in porphyrins.

Neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) has become the most prominent permanent magnet alloy, with a wide variety of applications and an ever-increasing demand. Their recycling is important for securing the supply of critical raw materials used in their manufacturing. The use of organic acids such as acetic acid has been of recent interest for the recycling of waste NdFeB magnets. The actions that individuals take to proactively craft their jobs are important to help create more meaningful and personally enriching work experiences. But do these proactive behaviors have implications beyond working life? Inspired by the suggestion that individuals aim for a meaningful life we examine whether on days when individuals craft their jobs, they are more likely to craft non-work activities. It also seems likely that characteristics of the home environment moderate these cross-domain relationships. Maģistra darbā ir aplūkotas dažas jaunas kombinatoriskās ģeometrijas spēles, kurās piedalās divi spēlētāji. Spēlētāji secīgi viens pēc otra izvēlas pa vienai figūrai no dotā figūru komplekta. Uzvar tas spēlētājs, kurš atvēlētajā laikā pirmais saliek prasītā tipa figūras. Analizētas četras spēles, kurās tiek sadalīts pentamino komplekts un tiek veidotas divas simetriskas vai divas vienādas figūras – 15-mino. Pierādīts, ka trijās spēlēs 1. spēlētājam eksistē uzvaroša (vismaz nezaudējoša) stratēģija. Noskaidrots, ka ceturtajā spēlē, kad jāveido simetriski dvīņi, uzvarošas stratēģijas nav nevienam no spēlētājiem.
The Gaia-ESO Survey: impact of extra mixing on C and N abundances of giant stars

The GES survey using FLAMES at the VLT has obtained high-resolution UVES spectra for a large number of giant stars, allowing a determination of the abundances of the key chemical elements C and N at their surface. The surface abundances of these chemical species are well-known to change in stars during their evolution on the red giant branch after the first dredge-up episod, as a result of extra-mixing phenomena. We investigate the effects of thermohaline mixing on C and N abundances using the first comparison between the GES [C/N] determinations with simulations of the observed fields using a model of stellar population synthesis.
