Following the money? : Performance based funding and the changing publication patterns of Finnish academics

Research on how performance-based funding influences the behaviour and performance of academics is limited in Europe. In this study, we investigate the changing publication patterns among Finnish academics associated with the introduction of awarding funding for publications within specific journals in the national performance-based funding model. We find evidence, particularly in the social sciences, and to a lesser extent humanities, that Finnish academics increasingly target international (English-language) publication outlets and lower-tiered journals. A través del estudio de las relaciones lingüísticas, temáticas y situacionales entre esas dos novelas, muestra que Cóbraselo caro, aun siendo un efecto performativo de Pedro Páramo, supone el auto-sabotaje de Élmer Mendoza en relación a buena parte de su narrativa. Study of scintillation light collection, production and propagation in a 4 tonne dual-phase LArTPC

The $3 \times 1 \times 1$ m$^3$ demonstrator is a dual phase liquid argon time projection chamber that has recorded cosmic rays events in 2017 at CERN. The light signal in these detectors is crucial to provide precise timing capabilities. The performances of the photon detection system, composed of five PMTs, are discussed. The collected scintillation and electroluminescence light created by passing particles has been studied in various detector conditions. In particular, the scintillation light production and propagation processes have been analyzed and compared to simulations, improving the understanding of some liquid argon properties.

Background and Study Aims: Previous research on musical performance achievement has focused on the overall musical performance and on musical subskills. Two studies were conducted to identify predictors of motor skill acquisition in children pianists and of long-term development of motor skills in expert pianists in a relevant musical context. Methods: Motor skills at the piano were assessed in standardized C major scale playing. Thin plastic foils are being investigated to build shell optics for X-ray telescopes. Compared to polished glass optics, the advantage is in terms of increased collecting area, light weight and lower cost. Plastic material is also desirable to allow deformation into a complete surface of revolution. We collected plastic materials of common use for industrial applications and also specialty materials developed for the electronic industry.
