Relational long-term breastfeeding
2021
This article uses a relationality-sensitive perspective to analyse long-term breastfeeding. The data was gathered through open invitations to write, and the article is based on the written reflections of 39 long-term breastfeeding Finnish mothers. In Finland, the breastfeeding of babies is strongly supported, but long-term breastfeeding (over 12 months) is a more conflicted issue, and the cultural norm of one year of breastfeeding is strong. Through qualitative content analysis, the article shows how mothers reflect on long-term breastfeeding’s effects on their relations with their breastfed children, partners (if any), relatives and healthcare professionals. The findings show that long-ter…

Successful and Positive Learning Through Study Crafting: A Self-Control Perspective
2019
Using social media and other Internet-based sources could distract students from decent academic learning and lead to negative learning, and self-control is required to foster self-regulated learning. Self-control involves the trait-like capacity for self-control and the state-like level of self-control strength, which could be used for performing self-control tasks. Capacity for self-control can be increased by regularly practicing self-control similar to a muscle that needs training for strengthening. We encourage creating study environments in which self-control is reasonably demanded. In particular, we propose that students should be enabled to engage in study crafting behavior. Study c…
Finnish students' multiliteracy profiles
2004
Finnish students' multiliteracy profiles are examined from the perspectives of both traditional printed reading and Internet activities in the light of the data collected as a national option integrated into the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2000 study. After reciting some previous findings on reader profiles as revealed by the initial international analyses of PISA data, the perspective is widened to encompass multiliteracy, which is defined according to the sociocultural view. Based on responses to a survey questionnaire, students were grouped by cluster analysis into six distinct clusters according to the frequency with which they read diverse printed materials an…
Contractual satisfaction: drivers and implication for theory
2014
The aim of inter-firm relations is to achieve each firm’s objectives. The achievement of these objectives is reflected in firms’ satisfaction. Satisfaction as a concept can be studied at different levels and contractual relations is one such level. Most studies on inter-firm satisfaction have looked at the general level of satisfaction, whose drivers are complex to account for. This study aims to investigate contractual satisfaction from the perspective of some of its key drivers. The main finding suggests that, while ongoing term specificity, contingent adaptability, reputation and trust have a positive influence on contractual satisfaction, opportunism has a negative one.
The Legend of Excellent Businessman. A Neuroethical Perspective
2019
If the question about the causes of the crises has generated a good deal of literature in Spain, the key issue in recent times has been how to create that tangible and intangible wealth that only companies can give. One of the proposals that specialists agree upon is to revitalise the business entrepreneurial spirit, presenting the entrepreneurs’ way of life as an attractive option, due to the good they produce and the social recognition they enjoy. Accepting the suggestions of the so-called “narrative turn”, the article analyses the virtualities of business narratives in order to enhance the role of entrepreneurs. To this end, the article aims to cover three stages: (1) narratives are nece…
Effects of Passive Leadership in the Digital Age
2021
Organizations must adapt to the trend of digitalization. Nowadays, social media engagement editors play an increasingly crucial role for organizational growth and prosperity in the digital age. Engagement editors are usually tasked to perform the functions of marketing, content production, and data analysis. They have to manage online communities on behalf of the organization, and encounter online audiences' frequent toxic and aggressive behaviors. Engagement editors thus are prone to emotional stress. Substantial literature has examined the influence of leadership style on employee performance. However, passive leadership is rarely studied. This research investigates (1) whether passive le…
