In this study, independent contribution of age, HR, BMI, casual and ambulatory blood pressure, LVM and LVEF in evaluating diastolic filling have been investigated in 34 never-treated hypertensive patients and in 15 healthy normotensive subjects. All the subjects were free from coronary artery disease, valvular disease, heart failure, renal disease and psychiatric problems. All the hypertensive subjects (never treated) were subgrouped according to presence or absence of LVH. Phenotypic variants in Friedreich's ataxia include late onset, preservation of the lower limbs tendon reflexes, and slow progression. We describe clinical and electrophysiological features from three families with Friedreichlike phenotypes. Friedreich's ataxia diagnosis was confirmed by finding two allelic expansions of the GAA trinucleotide repeat at the X25 gene. In family 1 both patients had a late-onset phenotype with preservation of knee and ankle jerks, lack of cardiomyopathy, and preserved H reflex. We present a patient with hepatitis C and D and hepatocellular carcinoma who underwent preoperative evaluation for orthotopic liver transplantation. In his past medical history, he reported a life-threatening event during tonsillectomy in 1975. Intubation was impossible due to extreme jaw muscle tension, followed by excessive elevation in body temperature, tachycardia, and coma for a few days. We evaluated him for malignant hyperthermia, according to the European Malignant Hyperthermia Group Protocol, and found him highly positive in both the halothane and caffeine test, respectively. Violations of personal space are associated with discomfort. However, the exact function linking the magnitude of discomfort to interpersonal distance has not yet been specified. In this study, we explore whether interpersonal distance and discomfort are isotropic with respect to uncomfortably far or close distances. We also extend previous findings with regard to intrusions into personal space as well as maintenance of distances outside of personal space. We presented subjects with 15 interpersonal distances ranging from 40 to 250 cm and obtained verbal and joystick-based ratings of discomfort.
