This thesis aims at the development of physical relations between the intricate 3D features of metallic microstructures and the mechanical properties of the material. For understanding which are the microstructural determinants of the resultingmechanical behaviour of metals, a deep quantitative characterisation of the microstructure is needed. Spin Crossover and Long-Lived Excited States in a Reduced Molecular Ruby.

Abstract The chromium(III) complex [CrIII(ddpd)2]3+ (molecular ruby; ddpd=N,N′‐dimethyl‐N,N′‐dipyridine‐2‐yl‐pyridine‐2,6‐diamine) is reduced to the genuine chromium(II) complex [CrII(ddpd)2]2+ with d4 electron configuration. This reduced molecular ruby represents one of the very few chromium(II) complexes showing spin crossover (SCO). The reversible SCO is gradual with T 1/2 around room temperature. The low‐spin and high‐spin chromium(II) isomers exhibit distinct spectroscopic and structural properties (UV/Vis/NIR, IR, EPR spectroscopies, single‐crystal XRD). Excitation of [CrII(ddpd)2]2+ with UV light at 20 and 290 K generates electronically excited states with microsecond lifetimes. This…

Per molti anni lo studio mediante eco-color-doppler dei parametri semiquantitativi emodinamici renali è stato utilizzato per rilevare le alterazioni della perfusione del rene trapiantato, per la diagnosi della stenosi dell’arteria renale o per valutare la progressione di alcune nefropatie. Più recentemente è stato osservato che tali parametri, ed in particolare l’indice di resistenza intrarenale (IR), non sono soltanto espressione della perfusione parenchimale, ma sono associati anche ad alterazioni morfo-funzionali sistemiche dell’albero vascolare. La gran mayoría de niños con infección por VIH presentan, dentro de sus primeros signos de enfermedad, manifestaciones orales. Estas lesiones orales no están producidas directamente por dicho virus, son manifestaciones asociadas a la infección por VIH, ya que no son patognomónicas de la infección. Algunas de estas lesiones orales tienen un valor pronóstico de cara a la evolución de la infección y la aparición de SIDA, independientemente de otros marcadores de uso más común. Los factores de riesgo esenciales que predisponen al desarrollo de dichas manifestaciones orales son el bajo número de linfocitos T CD4+, xerostomía y la ausencia de tratamiento antiretroviral.
