Horizontal contraction or horizontal extension? Heterogeneous Late Eocene and early Oligocene general shearing during blueschist and greenschist faci…

1995

Mylonitic structures related to two orogenic events are described from the upper and lower contacts of the Combin zone and the immediately overlying upper Austroalpine Dent Blanche nappe/Mont Mary klippe and the directly underlying lower Austroalpine Etirol-Levaz slice. The first event, Late Eocene in age, commenced during blueschist facies P-T conditions, but pre-dated the peak of subsequent greenschist facies overprint. The second event, Early Oligocene in age, took place during retrograde greenschist facies conditions. Most sense of shear indicators associated with the retrograde mylonites indicate top SE shearing, but subordinate top NW displacing shear sense indicators have also been m…

3-D attenuation image of fluid storage and tectonic interactions across the Pollino fault network

2021

SUMMARYThe Pollino range is a region of slow deformation where earthquakes generally nucleate on low-angle normal faults. Recent studies have mapped fault structures and identified fluid-related dynamics responsible for historical and recent seismicity in the area. Here, we apply the coda-normalization method at multiple frequencies and scales to image the 3-D P-wave attenuation (QP) properties of its slowly deforming fault network. The wide-scale average attenuation properties of the Pollino range are typical for a stable continental block, with a dependence of QP on frequency of $Q_\mathrm{ P}^{-1}=(0.0011\pm 0.0008) f^{(0.36\pm 0.32)}$. Using only waveforms comprised in the area of seism…

Production of bone mineral material and BMP-2 in osteoblasts cultured on double acid-etched titanium

2017

Background: The study of osteoblasts and their osteogenic functions is essential in order to understand them and their applications in implantology. In this sense, this study try to study BMP-2 production and bone matrix deposition, in addition to other biological variables, in osteoblasts cultured on a rough double acid-etched titanium surface (Osseotite®, Biomet 3i, Palm Beach Garden, Florida, USA) in comparison to a smooth titanium surface (machined) and a control Petri dish. Material and Methods: An in vitro prospective study. NHOst human osteoblasts from the femur were cultured on three different surfaces: Control group: 25-mm methacrylate dish (n = 6); Machined group: titanium discs w…

2020

This study aimed to investigate the associations of competitive sport participation in adolescence and age at menarche (AAM) with body composition, femoral neck bone mineral density (BMD), physical performance, and physical activity (PA) in middle-aged women. 1098 women aged 47–55 years formed the sample of this retrospective study. Participants self-reported their PA level at age 13–16 years and AAM. The protocol also included dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, physical performance tests, and accelerometer-measured PA. Participants were divided into three groups according to their PA level at the age of 13–16 (no exercise, regular PA, and competitive sport) and according to their AAM (≤12, …

Supervision by the state prerogatives of french sports federations

2013

French sports federations have developed without any state intervention. They had their own prerogatives to organize competitions in their respective sporting discipline. By virtue of their association status, they were entirely governed by private law. However, following a decision taken in 1974 by the Board of State confirming the existence of a public service delegated to the federal structure, the legislation gradually devote the principle of granting their prerogatives by the Ministry of Sports through two acts: the ministerial approval and delegation of public service. Since the issuance of these acts is synonymous powers recognized federations by state law and that the delegation lea…

The COGNITION Study Rationale and Design: Influence of Closed Loop Stimulation on Cognitive Performance in Pacemaker Patients

2008

Background: Several studies showed the beneficial effect of pacemaker implantation on cognitive performance in patients with bradycardia. But it has never been investigated if patients with chronotropic incompetence may improve their cognitive performance if treated by a rate-adaptive system reacting to mental stress in comparison to the most frequently used accelerometer-driven pacing. Methods: The randomized, single-blind, multicenter COGNITION study evaluates if closed loop stimulation (CLS) offers incremental benefit in the speed of cognitive performance and the overall well-being of elderly patients with bradycardia compared with accelerometer-based pacing. Four hundred chronotropicall…

Post-task Effects on EEG Brain Activity Differ for Various Differential Learning and Contextual Interference Protocols

2017

A large body of research has shown superior learning rates in variable practice compared to repetitive practice. More specifically, this has been demonstrated in the contextual interference (CI) and in the differential learning (DL) approach that are both representatives of variable practice. Behavioral studies have indicate different learning processes in CI and DL. Aim of the present study was to examine immediate post-task effects on electroencephalographic (EEG) brain activation patterns after CI and DL protocols that reveal underlying neural processes at the early stage of motor consolidation. Additionally, we tested two DL protocols (gradual DL, chaotic DL) to examine the effect of di…

Genomic and Proteomic Integrated Approach to Study Breast Cancer: Differences in Patients negative and Positive to 18F-FDG PET Screening

2012

Breast cancer rather presents distinct subtypes associated with different clinical outcomes. Understanding this heterogeneity is a key factor for the development of targeted preventative and therapeutic interventions (Rakha et al 2008). 18Ffluoro- 2-deoxy-D-glucose Positron Emission Tomography (18F-FDG PET) has been evaluated in breast cancer to characterize primary tumors, lymph node staging and patients follow-up after surgery, chemotherapy and/or external radiotherapy (Lind et al 2004). PET is a molecular imaging technique sensitive to functional or metabolic changes in tissues. Since functional changes precede anatomical changes, FDG PET has the capability to detect viable tumor tissue …

Mobiiliopetuksen käyttömahdollisuuksia : oppilaiden omien mobiililaitteiden käyttö peruskoulun alakoulun opetuksessa

2015

Muutaman viime vuoden aikana mobiililaitteiden käyttö kouluissa on yleistynyt. Tämä on osittain aiheuttanut ristiriitaista keskustelua laitteiden käytöstä opetuksessa. Osa opettajista on ottanut mobiililaitteet opetuskäyttöön innokkaasti. Tutkimus teht…
