Identification of an Antigen Related to the Sea Urchin RNA-Binding Protein LP54 in Mammalian Central Nervous System
2001
LP54 is an RNA-binding protein involved in localization of maternal messengers in sea urchin egg and embryos. Using a polyclonal antibody directed against Paracentrotus lividus LP54 we detected a 66-kDa cross-reacting antigen in undifferentiated and differentiated SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells. After treatment of undifferentiated cells with detergent, the 66-kDa antigen was found to be enriched in the cytoskeletal fraction. By Western blot the expression of this antigen was also analyzed in regions of the CNS and in tissues of the adult rat and its exclusive presence in the hippocampus and thalamus was revealed. The immunoreactivity with P. lividus antibody against LP54 in hippocampal l…
Oblique collision and evolution of large-scale transcurrent shear zones in the Kaoko belt, NW Namibia
2005
Abstract Early structures in the central part of the Kaoko orogenic belt of NW Namibia suggest that the initial stage of collision was governed by underthrusting of the medium-grade Central Kaoko zone below the high-grade Western Kaoko zone, resulting in the development of an inverted metamorphic gradient. In the Western zone, early structures were overprinted by a second phase of deformation, which is associated with localization of the transcurrent Puros shear zone along the contact between the Western and Central zones. During this second phase, extensive partial melting and intrusion of ∼550 Ma granitic bodies occurred in the high-grade Western zone. In the Central zone, the second phas…
Discrimination and provenances of Phoenician red slip ware using both the solid state electrochemistry and petrographic analyses
2020
[EN] Solid state electrochemistry based on the voltammetry of immobilized microparticles (VIMP) methodology is applied to a series of 80 Phoenician Red Slip samples from the archaeological sites of Motya (Sicily, Italy), Mogador (Morocco), Ramat-Rahel (Israel), Sulky (Sardinia, Italy), Tas Silg (Malta), Pantelleria (Italy), and Cadiz (Spain), dated from the 8(th) to the 6(th) century BC. Upon attachment of sub-microsamples to graphite electrodes in contact with aqueous H2SO4 electrolyte, voltammetric features due to the reduction of Fe(III) minerals and the oxidation of Fe(II) ones, complemented with electrocatalytic effects on oxygen reduction and oxygen evolution reactions, provide charac…
Strontium/lithium ratio in aragonitic shells of Cerastoderma edule (Bivalvia) — A new potential temperature proxy for brackish environments
2015
Abstract Quantitative reconstruction of water temperature from shells of bivalve mollusks is still a very challenging task. For example, in highly variable environments such as intertidal zones, shell oxygen isotope values can only provide reliable temperature estimates if the δ18Owater signature during the time of growth is known. Furthermore, trace element-to-calcium ratios such as Sr/Ca or Mg/Ca often do not serve as reliable paleothermometers, because their incorporation into bivalve shells is known to be strongly biologically controlled. Here, we present a potential novel temperature proxy which is based on the Sr/Lishell ratio of the intertidal bivalve Cerastoderma edule. Up to 81% of…
Intermittent Theta-Burst Stimulation Over the Suprahyoid Muscles Motor Cortex Facilitates Increased Degree Centrality in Healthy Subjects
2020
Theta-burst stimulation (TBS), a variant of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), can potentially benefit the treatment of swallowing disorders. However, the after-effects of TBS on the swallowing motor cortex remain uncertain. The newly developed graph-based analysis of the centrality approach has been increasingly used to explore brain networks. The purpose of this study was to identify degree centrality (DC) alterations in the brain network after different TBS protocols were performed over the suprahyoid muscles motor cortex in healthy subjects. A total of 40 right-handed healthy subjects (mean age: 23.73 ± 2.57 years, range: 21–30, 20 females) were included in this study …
Halogenated derivatives of boldine with high selectivity for alpha1A-adrenoceptors in rat cerebral cortex.
1999
The selectivity of 3-nitrosoboldine and different halogenated derivatives of boldine (3-bromoboldine, 3,8-dibromoboldine and 3-chloroboldine) for alpha1-adrenoceptor subtypes was studied by examining [3H]-prazosin competition binding in rat cerebral cortex. In the competition experiments [3H]-prazosin binding was inhibited completely by all the compounds tested. The inhibition curves displayed shallow slopes which could be subdivided into high and low affinity components. The relative order of affinity and selectivity for alpha1A-adrenoceptors was 3-bromoboldine = 3,8-dibromoboldine = 3-chloroboldineboldine3-nitrosoboldine. The competition curves for 3-bromoboldine remained shallow and biph…
1974
The formation of zeolites by hydrothermal alteration has been investigated by taking trass from the Laach volcanic area as a sample. Zeolites to be found are chabazite, phillipsite and analcime, all of which originated from the same phonolitic glass. This paper aims at explaining the formation of zeolites by means of experimental alteration of the pumice with various solutions. NaOH and KOH solutions were used in the experiments, these limited the formation conditions of chabazite, phillipsite, analcime in alkaline environments. Moreover, experiments were carried out with H2O dist and with solutions that formed during the alteration of pumice by reacting with H2O. These experiments were con…
Professional agency in the stream of change: Understanding educational change and teachers' professional identities
2015
The qualitative meta-study reported here investigated Finnish vocational teachers' professional agency amid an educational reform. Differences were found in teachers' agency regarding their work, their involvement with the reform, and their professional identity. The manifestations of agency could remain stable or could change over time, and agency drew on various resources (e.g. teacher identity and the organizational management culture). The theoretical conclusions encompass professional agency as multidimensional, largely individually varied, temporally imbued, and both socially and individually resourced. Based on the findings, an agency-centered approach is proposed as a means of under…
