Betulin is a principal component of birch bark and is known to possess a broad range of biological activities, including antiinflammatory, antiviral and anticancer actions. The present study was carried out in vitro to clarify the influence of betulin on melanocortin (MC) receptor-ergic signalling by using COS-7 cells transfected with corresponding human MC receptor DNA. The results showed that betulin binds to the human melanocortin MC1, three to five receptors with selectivity to the MC1 subtype (K(i) value 1.022 +/- 0.115 microM). Women are up to ten times more likely to develop anorexia nervosa (AN) than men. Psychoanalytic explanations of this disparity generally emphasize female identification problems due to unresolved conflicts with maternal representations. Based on clinical observation, we identify a subtype of AN patients characterized, first, by consistent idealization of the father who needs the patient for the fulfilment of his own narcissistic needs and, second, by the patient's need to be idealized by the father due to suffering in connection with early emotional malnutrition on the part of the mother. Effect of kind and content of organo-modified clay on properties of PET nanocomposites

In this work we report the properties of nanocomposite based on PET with two different samples of organically modified montmorillonites. In particular, we studied the effect of the filler concentration on morphology, rheology, and mechanical performance, focusing our attention on the effect of the degradation phenomena of the clay modifiers. The results indicate that at low clay level the morphology achieved is mainly intercalated. On increasing the filler level, coalescence and/or bad defragmentation phenomena induce a coarser morphology, as confirmed by XRD, SEM, and TEM observations.
