La conoscenza dei fattori che influenzano la propagazione di una specie rappresenta un passo cruciale nella messa a punto di strategie per la sua moltiplicazione di massa e introduzione in coltura, sia in campo che in ambiente controllato. Revaluation of graffiti as unwanted texts in language acquisition

The aim of the article is to theoretically substantiate the use of graffiti in the learning process and practically demonstrate how graffiti texts could be included in language acquisition (especially in the language as a first language lessons). Graffiti examples are taken from the linguistic landscape of Latvia to discuss with secondary school pupils the language use in the city, emotions in language, as well as to enhance understanding of linguistic and visual images on the various levels. Rakstu krājums ietver 15 rakstu par dažādiem gramatikas un valodas apguves jautājumiem sinhroniskā un diahroniskā aspektā. Valodas materiāla analīze galvenokārt balstās dažādu korpusu (latviešu, lietuviešu, angļu) pētījumos un tekstu interpretācijā (latviešu un gruzīnu valodas diahroniskā aprakstā). This volume covers 15 articles on different synchronic and diachronic issues in grammar and language acquisition. The research is mainly corpus- based (using various Latvian, Lithuanian, English corpora) and text-driven (the history of Latvian, Latin, and Georgian).
CUDA-BLASTP: Accelerating BLASTP on CUDA-enabled graphics hardware

Scanning protein sequence database is an often repeated task in computational biology and bioinformatics. However, scanning large protein databases, such as GenBank, with popular tools such as BLASTP requires long runtimes on sequential architectures. Due to the continuing rapid growth of sequence databases, there is a high demand to accelerate this task. In this paper, we demonstrate how GPUs, powered by the Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA), can be used as an efficient computational platform to accelerate the BLASTP algorithm. Background Fetal-to-neonatal transition is associated with oxidative stress. In preterm infants, immaturity of the antioxidant system favours supplemental oxygen-derived morbidity and mortality. Objectives To assess if prolonging in utero-like oxygenation during the fetal-to-neonatal transition limits oxidative stress in the lung and brain, improving postnatal adaptation of mice pups. Material and methods Inspiratory oxygen fraction (FiO2) in pregnant mice was reduced from 21% (room air) to 14% (hypoxia) 8–12 h prior to delivery and reset to 21% 6–8 h after birth. Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena oli kartoittaa, millaisia kirjoittamistehtäviä ja työskentelytapoja lukion ruotsinopettajat käyttävät opettaessaan kirjoittamista, sekä selvittää, ovatko opettajat huomanneet joidenkin tehtävätyyppien tai työtapojen olevan oppimisen kannalta tehokkaampia kuin toisten. Tarkoituksena oli myös saada selville, eriyttävätkö opettajat kirjoittamisen opetusta sekä kuinka paljon ylioppilaskirjoitukset vaikuttavat opetukseen. Tutkielma toteutettiin kyselytutkimuksena, ja sen aineistona olivat 19 ruotsinopettajan kyselylomakevastaukset, jotka kerättiin joulukuun 2012 aikana Suomen Ruotsinopettajien liiton sähköpostilistan kautta.
