Neonatal sepsis caused by Ralstonia pickettii
2008
e describe the clinical case of apremature newborn, born at 26weeks by cesarean delivery, followed inthe neonatal intensive care unit. Themother was diabetic with adequate con-trol during pregnancy.Neonatal weight was 930 g;APGAR score 3 at 1 minute and 8 at 5minutes. She received forced ventilationby endotracheal tube and parenteralnutrition by a central venous catheter. She was treated with ampicillin for thefirst 20 days of life. At 25 days, apneaand bradychardia episodes occurredwith a progressive increment in sever-ity and frequency. Leukocytes, C-re-active protein, cerebral echography, and echocardiogram were normal.Oralfeeding was transiently stopped and rani-tidine treatment was starte…
Reduction of mortality rate in premature infants by substitution of thyroid hormones.
1981
Our previous examinations had shown that 9 of 13 premature infants with severe respiratory distress had hypothyroid T4-values. On the basis of these results a prospective study was initiated. Every second neonate born after less than 37 weeks gestation or weighing less than 2200 g and admitted to our intensive care unit since Janary 1979 received a prophylactic dose of 25 μg l-Thyroxine and 5 μg Tri-iodothyronine daily. Five of the patients inadvertently did not receive the drug and were included in the non-treated group which thus numbered 55. Both groups were nearly identical with regard to gestational age, birth weight and Apgar score. In the treated group of 45 infants three (=6.6%) die…
Predictive Factors of Abdominal Compartment Syndrome in Neonatal Age
2014
In the pediatric population, abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) is a known complication of abdominal wall defect repair. However, there are only few reports on ACS in newborns and only a proposal of critical intra-abdominal pressure value (IAP) in term newborns, absent in preterm newborns. Although the prevalent clinical sign is tense abdominal distension, it may be difficult to distinguish ACS from pathologies that will not require decompression. The purpose of this study was to identify predictors for ACS and therefore morbidity or mortality indicators. We reviewed newborns presenting with tense abdominal distension and end organ failure. Anamnestic, clinical, laboratory, and instrument…
Decreased prevalence of left-handedness among females with male co-twins: evidence suggesting prenatal testosterone transfer in humans?
2009
Studies of singletons suggest that right-handed individuals may have higher levels of testosterone than do left-handed individuals. Prenatal testosterone levels are hypothesised to be especially related to handedness formation. In humans, female members from opposite-sex twin pairs may experience elevated level of prenatal exposure to testosterone in their intra-uterine environment shared with a male. We tested for differences in rates of left-handedness/right-handedness in female twins from same-sex and opposite-sex twin pairs. Our sample consisted of 4736 subjects, about 70% of all Finnish twins born in 1983–1987, with information on measured pregnancy and birth related factors. Circulati…
Prenatal and neonatal risk factors for the development of enamel defects in low birth weight children
2009
Oral Diseases (2010) 16, 257–262 Objective: To analyse the influence of several prenatal and neonatal risk factors in the development of enamel defects in low birth weight children. Subjects and methods: Children between 4 and 5 years of age (n = 102) were classified into: Group 1) 52 low birth weight (<2500 g); Group 2) 50 normal birth weight (≥2500 g). Medical history, prenatal and neonatal variables were collected. Enamel defects were evaluated with the modified Developmental Defects of Enamel Index. Results: The prevalence of hypoplasia and average number of affected teeth were significantly higher in group 1 than in group 2 (59.6%vs 16% and 1.6 vs 0.3 respectively). Low gestational …
Laparoscopic Repair of Boundary Incisional Hernia in a Kidney Transplant Patient: A Safe Tacks-Fibrin Glue Combined Mesh Fixation Technique.
2018
Abstract Background Incisional hernia in renal transplant patients is a complication that negatively affects the global outcome of transplant and quality of life. The repair of this condition was classically made by open repair with mesh. Increasing evidence suggests that laparoscopic repair could be advocated as the technique of choice in these patients with optimal results. However, the fixation of mesh should be performed by a mixed combination of fibrin sealant (lateral margin of wall defect) and tacks (medial margin). The tacks fixation of the mesh along the lateral margin of the wall defect, close to the graft, is generally difficult for the small size of the remaining aponeurotic pla…
Vēlēšanu sistēmas maiņas iespējamā ietekme uz 13 Saeimas vēlēšanu rezultātiem
2020
Darba autors, izmantojot 13. Saeimas vēlēšanu rezul…

Brief an Garlieb H. Merkel
1799
Ms. 930a, Nr. 18, Bl. 45r-46v Justus C. Loder. Brief an GarliebH. Merkel, Jena, den 19. Jul[i] 1799 Autora rokraksts / Autograph, vācuval. / Deutsch [2] lpp.
