The aim of this work was to characterize the genetic and biochemical mechanisms involved in the PASR, the phenolic acid stress response induced by phenolic acids Bacillus subtilis. By genetics and molecular biology strategies, like reverse genetic, PCR or transposon random mutagenesis, gene deletion, complementation of strains, and gene expression, the main components of the PASR were identified and quantified. International audience; The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is a transcription factor deeply implicated in health and diseases. Historically identified as a sensor of xenobiotics and mainly toxic substances, AhR has recently become an emerging pharmacological target in cancer, immunology, inflammatory conditions, and aging. Pterostilbene and 3′-hydroxypterostilbene are effective apoptosis-inducing agents in MDR and BCR-ABL-expressing leukemia cells

Pterostilbene and 3,5-hydroxypterostilbene are the natural 3,5-dimethoxy analogs of trans-resveratrol and piceatannol, two compounds which can induce apoptosis in tumor cells. In previous studies we demonstrated the importance of a 3,5-dimethoxy motif in conferring pro-apoptotic activity to stilbene based compounds so we now wanted to evaluate the ability of pterostilbene and 3,5-hydroxypterostilbene in inducing apoptosis in sensitive and resistant leukemia cells. When tested in sensitive cell lines, HL60 and HUT78, 3'-hydroxypterostilbene was 50-97 times more potent than trans-resveratrol in inducing apoptosis, while pterostilbene appeared barely active. Phytochemical profile and antioxidant properties of the edible and non-edible portions of black sapote (Diospyros digyna Jacq.)

This study evaluated the phytochemical profile and antioxidative properties of the edible and non-edible portions of black sapote. The phytochemical analysis highlighted the presence of several bioactive compounds, differently distributed among peel, pulp and seeds. In particular, the peel resulted rich of flavan-3-ols and proanthocyanidins, whereas seeds contained high amount of organic acids, including ferulic, citric and sinapic acids. Simultaneous determination of 4-nitroanisole, 4-nitrophenol, and 4-nitrocatechol by phase-sensitive ac polarography.

Abstract Phase‐sensitive ac polarography was applied to the simultaneous quantitative determination of 4‐nitroanisole, 4‐nitrophenol and 4‐nitrocatechol in alkaline solutions. Certain experimental precautions are necessary to determine each compound in the presence of the other two. Thus, 4‐nitrocatechol is determined indirectly by forming a yellow ratio chelate with cupric ions, whereas 4‐nitroanisole is determined directly by the reduction waves of the nitro group. For the determination of 4‐nitrophenol, the interference by the simultaneously present 4‐nitrocatechol must be eliminated by masking it by the addition of magnesium ions.
