Abnormal pentagastrin response in a patient with pseudohypoparathyroidism

The case of a 25 year old female patient with pseudohypoparathyroidism type I (PHP) and hypercalcitoninaemia is reported. She was referred to our clinic because of recurrent hypocalcaemia associated with paraesthesias and muscle cramps. She had no signs of Albright hereditary osteodystrophy (AHO), a normal mental status and no family history of hypocalcaemia or any other endocrine disease. Considering the laboratory results with hypocalcaemia, hyperphosphataemia, normal vitamin D and normal creatinine with an extraordinary elevated PTH we diagnosed pseudohypoparathyroidism type I. The authors reveal the results of pseudocholinesterase and human red cell acid phosphatase typings in a sample of 115 unrelated female Koreans aged from 20–30. No atypical pseudocholinesterase variants could be demonstrated. The frequencies of human red cell acid phosphatase alleles run up to: phA=0.231, phB=0.769, phC=0.000.

Not All Floating-Harbor Syndrome Cases are Due to Mutations in Exon 34 of SRCAP

International audience; Floating-Harbor syndrome (FHS) is a rare disorder characterized by short stature, delayed bone age, speech delay, and dysmorphic facial features. We report here the molecular analysis of nine cases, fulfilling the diagnostic criteria for FHS. Using exome sequencing, we identified SRCAP as the disease gene in two cases and subsequently found SRCAP truncating mutations in 6/9 cases. All mutations occurred de novo and were located in exon 34, in accordance with the recent report of Hood et al. Historically, liver biopsy (LB) was the sole method to evaluate the severity of hepatic fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C infection. However, LB is expensive and associated with a risk of severe complications. Therefore, noninvasive tests have been developed to assess the severity of liver fibrosis. Autoimmune associations and autoantibody screening show focused recognition in patient subgroups with generalized myasthenia gravis

Autoimmune associations in myasthenia gravis (MG)-patients and their relatives have not been re-assessed since their separation into early- or late-onset MG (EOMG, LOMG), or thymoma-associated MG. Here, we analysed 226 EOMG-, 97 LOMG-, and 150 thymoma-patients for autoimmune disorders in themselves and their relatives. From 283 of them sera were tested for different organ- and non-organ-specific autoantibodies (autoAbs) by immunofluorescence test (IFT) and ELISA; genotyping was performed in 213 patients. Migration of renal tumor cells depends on dephosphorylation of Shc by PTEN.

The tumor suppressor PTEN is a phosphatase using FAK and Shc as direct substrates, and Akt as a key effector via PIP3. PTEN regulates cell migration and may influence metastases. We quantified PTEN in 135 clear cell renal cell carcinomas (ccRCC) by Western blot analysis and found statistically significant lower PTEN expression in patients who died, usually caused by metastases, within 5 years after surgery, compared to those surviving this time period.
