Non-linear interactions of femtosecond laser pulses with graphene : photo-oxidation, imaging and photodynamics

This thesis presents a study focused on interactions of femtosecond laser pulses with graphene, a one atom thick carbon membrane. Graphene, which exhibits exceptional electronic and optoelectronic properties, could provide considerable advantage over current silicon-based electronics. Graphene alone, being semi-metal, is not sufficient for electronic applications, but requires modification. For this, a set of methods for modifying and measuring the properties of graphene was developed. With the perspective of making graphene a suitable component for electronics, optoelectronics or photonics, ultrashort laser pulses were used for drawing patterns on graphene. Abstract Laser induced two-photon oxidation has proven to be a reliable method to pattern and control the level of oxidation of single layer graphene, which in turn allows the development of graphene-based electronic and optoelectronic devices with an all-optical method. Here we provide a full structural and chemical description of modifications of air-suspended graphene during the oxidation process. Pro-Degradant Activity of Naturally Occurring Compounds on Polyethylene in Accelerate Weathering Conditions

In this work, naturally occurring compounds, such as Vitamin E (VE) and Ferulic Acid (FA), at high concentrations, have been considered as pro-degradant agents for Low Density Polyethylene (PE). However, all obtained results using the naturally occurring molecules as pro-oxidant agents for PE have been compared with the results achieved using a classical pro-oxidant agent, such as calcium stearate (Ca stearate) and with neat PE.
