Tutkimus selvittää minkälaisia Britanniaan liittyviä kulttuurisia ilmiötä korostetaan 1980-luvun ja 2000-luvun suomalaisten 7. luokan kirjojen kuvituksessa. Tutkimuksen kohteena on kaksi suomalaista 7. luokan englannin kielen oppikirjaa 1980-luvulta, sekä kaksi 7. luokan englannin kielen oppikirjaa 2000-luvulta. In this paper we describe the first full implementation of a content-based indexing and retrieval system for MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 videos. We consider a video as a collection of spatiotemporal segments called video objects; each video object is a sequence of video object planes. A set of representative video object planes is used to index each video object. During the database population, the operator, using a semi-automatic outlining tool we developed, manually selects video objects and insert some semantical information. Objective: Worries about health threatening effects of potential health hazards of modern life (e.g. electric devices and pollution) represent a growing phenomenon in Western countries. Yet, little is known about the causes of this growing special case of affective risk perceptions termed Modern Health Worries (MHW). The purpose of this study is to examine a possible role of biased media reports in the formation of MHW. Design: In two experiments, we investigated whether typical television reports affect MHW. Elliptical Fourier Descriptors for shape retrieval in biological images

The retrieval of information in a standard database can be obtained in different ways and in some cases a number of steps are necessary to extract the sought for information. More difficulties exist when we are looking for a pictorial information in a database. This paper presents a method for finding an image in a biological database based on elliptical Fourier descriptors. Fourier descriptors are considered here as textual information and a distance function is proposed to evaluate the best result. Fourier descriptors and distance function are used to retrieve image in pictorial database.

Maģistra darbs ir uzrakstīts angļu valodā uz 36 lapam. Tas satur 17 attēlus, 4 tabulas u 82 atsauces. Mērķis: Izpētīt, kā dažādas tematiskās fotogrāfijas modulē sāpju noteikšanas sliekšņus, un novērtētu emocionālās fotogrāfijas izmantojot pašnovērtējuma manekenu metodi (SAM). Metodes: 21 sievietei sāpju noteikšanas sliekšņi tika izmērīti ar pakāpeniski pieaugoša sprieguma padevi dalībnieku apakšdelmiem. Rezultāti: Sāpju noteikšanas sliekšņi tika samazināti ar negatīvām valences fotogrāfijām (attēlojot vardarbību, dzīvnieku un cilvēku uzbrukumus, zaudējumus). The aim of the present study was to analyze differences in the emotional processing (valence, arousal, and dominance) of food-related information in patients with eating disorders (ED), patients with obesity, and healthy women. In spite of several studies, these components are mainly known in bivalves from only few members of pteriomorph groups. In the present case, we investigated the biochemical properties of the aragonitic shell of the freshwater bivalve Unio pictorum (Paleoheterodonta, Unionoida).
