High-resolution far-field integral-imaging camera by double snapshot
2012
In multi-view three-dimensional imaging, to capture the elemental images of distant objects, the use of a field-like lens that projects the reference plane onto the microlens array is necessary. In this case, the spatial resolution of reconstructed images is equal to the spatial density of microlenses in the array. In this paper we report a simple method, based on the realization of double snapshots, to double the 2D pixel density of reconstructed scenes. Experiments are reported to support the proposed approach.
Radiographic and chest CT imaging presentation and follow-up of COVID-19 pneumonia: a multicenter experience from an endemic area.
2020
COVID-19 has infected more than 2 million people in the world in less than 5 months outbreak. Chest imaging is recommended for triage of suspected cases of COVID-19 with moderate-severe clinical features and high pre-test probability of disease, and may help for patient follow-up and to identify patients at higher risk of disease worsening. This pictorial essay illustrates typical and uncommon imaging findings of COVID-19 pneumonia and the role of imaging for patient management.
Depicting signs and different text genres : Preliminary observations in the corpus of Finnish sign language
2018
In this article we first discuss the different kinds of signs occurring in sign languages and then concentrate on depicting signs, especially on their classification in Finnish Sign Language. Then we briefly describe the corpora of Finland's sign languages (CFINSL). The actual study concerns the occurrences of depicting signs in CFINSL in different text genres, introductions, narratives and free discussions. Depicting signs occurred most frequently in narratives, second most frequently in discussions and least frequently in introductions. The most frequent depicting signs in all genres were those that depicted the whole entity moving or being located. The second most frequent were those sig…
The visual principle and the correlation between teaching of the Catholic religion and art education in Polish school
2017
Contemporary culture – as already noted – is becoming more and more visual. Contemporary catechesis, referring to its rich, centuries-long experience, should also use different types of images. The first part of this article presents the visual principle as one of basic educating principles, and the second part presents the correlation between the teaching of Catholic religion, and art education in Polish schools. One specific example of using religious painting are in textbooks. Masterpieces of painting, created during centuries and expressing particular desires of their creators, still remain an important inspiration, among others, to the religious search. Faith, though strongly anchored …
Alan Moore's America: The Liberal Individual and American Identities in Watchmen
2011
core is an ensemble of diverse characters that explores fundamental issues for American national identity during the second half of the twentieth century. Moore’s work performs thi st ask in two ways, fi rstly, by presenting a group of diverse ideologically contingent American figures in the individual characters, and secondly, by highlighting a sacrosanct element of America’s image of itself, the primacy of the ‘‘liberal individual’’ not just as an American type but as the naturalized core of the national ethos. This article maps this subject identity into a national identity such as that typified in Benedict Anderson’s Imagined Communities ,as mall-n nationalism as a successor to kinship …
Extraterrestrial Mössbauer Spectroscopy
2011
To understand the origin of the Solar system and the origin of Life itself is one of the longest standing goals of human thought. Our Sun and its planets have formed out of an interstellar cloud which collapsed due to gravitational forces, forming a disk shaped so-called protosolar nebula, with the young star in the centre. Such disk shaped and dust grain containing protosolar nebulae have been observed. One of them is surrounding the young star Beta pictoris [1, 2]. Silicates, carbon and metal grains, oxides and sulfides should have been present. One of the important elements with relatively high abundance is iron. It is believed that simple molecules, such as water (H2O), carbon monoxide …
Pictorial information retrieval with uncertain knowledge
1990
In the paper an integrated pictorial database is described. The design of the data management requires many efforts to preserve consistency and integrity. The retrieval operations are designed to support a uniform view of heterogeneous information including uncertain ones; in this last case, non-standard techniques have to be developed. Applications to astronomical images and an outline of the implementation status are given.
Differences between young children’s actual, self-perceived and parent-perceived aquatic skills
2021
As drowning is a leading cause of unintentional injury/death in children worldwide, perceptions of their actual aquatic skills are of critical importance. Children’s self-perceptions may influence the risks they take, and parental perceptions may influence the degree of supervision deemed to be necessary for children in and around water. Accordingly, we examined the differences between young children’s actual, self-perceived and parent-perceived aquatic skills. Using a three-way repeated measures ANCOVA, we analyzed data from 134 child-parent dyads (56.0% boys; M age = 7.1, SD = 1.1 years; and 71.6% mothers). We measured self and parental perceptions of the child’s aquatic skills with the …
