An Efficient Stereoselective Synthesis of Stypodiol and Epistypodiol

An efficient synthesis of stypodiol (1) and its epimer at C-14, epistypodiol (2), was accomplished starting from (S)-(+)-carvone (7). The synthesis of both epimeric compounds proceeds through common intermediates using an IMDA reaction, a sonochemical Barbier reaction, and an acid-catalyzed quinol−tertiary alcohol cyclization as key synthetic steps.
o-(Hydroxyalkyl)phenyl P-Chirogenic Phosphines as Functional Chiral Lewis Bases

The stereoselective synthesis of P-chirogenic phosphines bearing an o-hydroxyalkyl chelating arm is described. The synthesis is based either on the hydroxyalkylation of P-chirogenic o-bromophenylphosphines (borane) or on their carbonatation and then reduction. The hydroxyalkylation with benzaldehyde or pivalaldehyde affords a mixture of epimers which are isolated by chromatography and characterized by their X-ray structures. Preliminary assays of free P-chirogenic o-(hydroxyalkyl)phenyl phosphines, as new functional Lewis bases in catalyzed asymmetric aza-MBH reaction, lead to β-aminoester derivatives with ee values up to 74%.

Kaksi- ja monikielisyyttä on tutkittu paljon esimerkiksi lasten kielen kehityksen ja kognitiivisen kehityksen näkökulmasta. Lasten käsityksiä omasta kaksikielisyydestään tai sen vaikutuksista ei ole juurikaan tehty tutkimuksia. Tässä tutkimuksessa selvitettiin yhdentoista kaksi- ja monikielisen lapsen näkemyksiä kaksikielisyydestä ja kielen opiskelusta. Kyseessä oli haastattelututkimus, jossa haastateltiin kuutta tyttöä ja viittä poikaa, jotka olivat neljäs-, viides- ja kuudesluokkalaisia. Muutaman viime vuoden aikana mobiililaitteiden käyttö kouluissa on yleistynyt. Tämä on osittain aiheuttanut ristiriitaista keskustelua laitteiden käytöstä opetuksessa. Osa opettajista on ottanut mobiililaitteet opetuskäyttöön innokkaasti. Mobiiliopetuksen mahdollisuuksia ei kuitenkaan ole vielä kovin paljon tutkittu. Tällä tutkimuksella oli tarkoitus selvittää, mitä mahdollisuuksia oppilaiden omat mobiililaitteet tarjoavat opetukseen. Tämän artikkelin tavoitteena on laajentaa digitalisaatiosta, datafikaatiosta, automaatiosta ja kasvatuksesta käytävää teoreettista keskustelua. Artikkelissa pohdin sitä, millaisia merkityksiä koulutuksen kiihtyvällä datafikaatiolla ja automaatiolla on opettaja-oppilassuhteille ja ylipäätään käsityksellemme formaalin kasvatuksen olemuksesta. Käsitteellisesti ammennan Martin Buberin dialogisesta filosofiasta, erityisesti Minä–Sinä- ja Minä–Se-käsitepareista, jotka kuvaavat eri tapoja, joilla ihmiset ovat suhteissa toistensa kanssa. The pharmacological effects of glucocorticoids are greatly influenced by their pharmacokinetic properties. In the present report, the in vitro biotransformation of the 22R and 22S epimers of the topical steroid budesonide was studied in the S-9 fraction of human liver, bronchus, skin and colonic mucosa. The disappearance of unchanged epimers of budesonide was measured during 90 min of incubation by high performance liquid chromatography. The rate of disappearance was high in human liver while little biotransformation occurred in bronchial tissue and colonic mucosa, and none was detected in the skin. Background: Once-daily tiotropium Respimat® (tioR) add-on therapy has demonstrated efficacy in patients with moderate symptomatic asthma. Aim and Objectives: To investigate whether dosing regimen (QD vs BID) affected 24-h bronchodilator efficacy and exposure of tioR. Methods: 2 randomised, double-blind, crossover trials (trial 1, NCT01152450 [placebo-controlled]; trial 2, NCT01696071); 4-week treatments of tioR 5 µg QD, 2.5 µg BID and placebo Respimat® (pboR) added to medium-dose ICS (400-800 µg budesonide or equivalent).
