This article is based on an unpublished contract signed in 1539 by Vicente and Juan Macip for an altarpiece for the Valencian Brotherhood of the Blood of Christ. The agreement stipulates that Juan, later known as Juan de Juanes, had to paint the scenes. Thus the document reinforces the hypothesis that Juan Macip was the most important painter in the Macip workshop during the 1530’s. It also fills a documental void in between the completion of the Silversmith’s Guild altarpiece (1534-1539) and the contract for the Fuente la Higuera altarpiece (1548). This study also verifies the popularity of the iconography of the seven sheddings of the Blood of Christ and processions of disciplinants.<b…

Martin gomez el viejo es un pintor renacentista de la escuela conquense y del foco valenciano. Su abundante obra ha sido corroborada en recientes publicaciones. En la presente, se subraya su labor como divulgador del estilo de yañez de la almedina en castilla la mancha. El conocimiento de su obra puede enriquecerse con los paneles de la virgen y el niño y los santos juanes, que han sido relacionados estilisticamente con otros trabajos de segura atribucion. Ademas, este infrecuente tema es analizado iconograficamente en la pintura española. (a.b.c./ l.a.g.)

El cuadro "alegoria de las pasiones humanas" del museo de budapest, pintado por juan boyra -oculto bajo el nombre de maestro de alzira- entre 1545 y 1550, se relaciona con la literatura renacentista que hace hincapie en la lucha de la razon con los apetitos y vicios. La presencia sobre un arbol de una cartela con tres coronas, como referencia a las tres artes sermoniales de la orden; esto es, teologia, filosofia y retorica, y presentes en otras obras, llevan a pensar que el comitente pudo ser un importante fraile del convento de predicadores de valencia (abc/lag).

The contract dated 1511 signed by Fernando Llanos and Fernando Yáñez de la Almedina, Castillian painters known as “the Hernandos,” for the termination of an altarpiece in the chapel of the “Virgen de les Febres” is presented here. This chapel was founded in 1497 in the collegiate church of Jàtiva (Valencia) by Francisco de Borja, Bishop of Teano and Cardinal of Cosenza. This paper deals with a study on the older chromatic phase from La Sarga (Alcoy, Alicante), which is underlaid to the Levantine Art. It is specially important with regard to the last discoveries, because it permits to isolate a new artistic outlook, previous to the Levantine Art, at least in the Northern districts of the province Alicante.
