A Statistical Matrix Representation Using Sliced Orthogonal Nonlinear Correlations for Pattern Recognition

In pattern recognition, the choice of features to be detected is a critical factor to determine the success or failure of a method; much research has gone into finding the best features for particular tasks [1]. When images are detected by digital cameras, they are usually acquired as rectangular arrays of pixels, so the initial features are pixel values. Some methods use those pixel values directly for processing, for instance in normal matched filtering [2], whereas other methods execute some degree of pre-processing, such as binarizing the pixel values [3].

Plant Ecological Unit’s (PEUs) are the abstraction of vegetation communities that occur on a site which similarly respond to management actions and natural disturbances. Identification and monitoring of PEUs in a heterogeneous landscape is the most difficult task in medium resolution satellite images datasets. Real-time Sub-pixel Cross Bar Position Metrology

Many measurement application fields need to calculate cross bar intersection locations of horizontal and vertical bars. The system we developed and that we present in this paper is an embedded system that measures cross bar positions with sub-pixel accuracy on 1024×1024 pixel images delivered by a camera at a 50 MHz data rate in real time. This is done using an algorithm that looks for intersection areas and then locally calculates two lines representing horizontal and vertical bars. Wider is better but sharper is not: optimizing the image of camera-monitor systems

The replacement of rear-view mirrors with camera-monitor systems introduces new opportunities for design, such as altering the image quality and the rearward field-of-view. We investigated how the image quality and field-of-view might affect the distance and time-to-contact estimation of other vehicles. Eighty-six subjects estimated either their egocentric distance to a stationary vehicle (Experiment I) or the time-to-contact to an approaching vehicle (Experiment II). Speckle interferometry is a technique adequate to metrological problems such as the measurement of object deformation. An automatic system of analysis of such measurements is given; it consists of a motorized x-y plate positioner controlled by computer, a CCD video camera, and software for image analysis. Objective improvement of the visual quality of ion microscope images

The need to operate with low ion beam fluences implies the images obtained using ion microscope (IM) are often grainy and have poor visual quality compared to what can be obtained using e.g. confocal microscopy. The implemented SCD Vision sensor delivers the pixels ordered according to the illumination change undergone by each pixel, from the last time each pixel was read-out. Water‐vapour retrieval from Meteosat 8/SEVIRI observations

This paper aims to propose operational algorithms to retrieve the total atmospheric water vapour content (W) using the Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager (SEVIRI) on-board Meteosat 8. MODTRAN3.5 was used to obtain simulated data in the thermal infrared channels IR10.8 and IR12.0, in order to determine the numerical values of the coefficients of the algorithms. The algorithm proposed for land pixels takes into account the SEVIRI observation geometry and the radiometric temperatures obtained in the split-window channels at two different times during a day and requires a minimum difference of 10 K in terms of temperature between the two situations.
