Histologische und histoautoradiographische Untersuchungen zur Wanddicke und zum Zellumsatz am interponierten Hundedünndarm nach totaler Gastrektomie

1979

Total gastrectomy was performed on purebred beagle dogs and a 30--40 cm jejunal segment was grafted isoperistaltically between oesophagus and duodenum. Histological and histoautoradiographical examinations were carried out and the wall-thickness and the cell-transformation rate in the interponate determined. Despite the isoperistaltic substitute-stomach a muscular wall-hypertrophy of 140% of the interponated jejunum was found. The reason for this hypertrophy is thought to be the result of adhesions and the functional mechanical demands. Histoautoradiographical examinations confirmed that the regeneration time in the substitute-stomach decreased by 70% compared with the normal jejunum. The d…

Ultrasonography features of the intrinsic foot muscles in patients with and without plantar fasciitis: A novel case-control research study

2021

IntroductionPlantar fasciitis (PF) is the most common cause of heel pain.(1) This condition was described as a degenerative syndrome associated with pain, lack of functionality and stiffness on the plantar fascia. The aim of the present study was to compare with ultrasound imaging (USI) the thickness and cross-sectional area of the intrinsic foot muscles between individuals with and without plantar fasciitis (PF).Material and methodsA total of 64 volunteers from 18 to 55 years were recruited for the present study. The sample was divided in two groups: A group, composed of participants diagnosed by PF (n = 32) and B group, composed by healthy participants (n = 32).ResultsUSI measurements for…

Cambra system in patients awaiting hematopoietic progenitor cell transplant and high caries risk

2016

Background Recent times have witnessed a significant increase in the number of patients affected by problems related to oncological treatment Aims of this study is to evaluate dental affectation among patients awaiting hematopoietic progenitor cell transplant (HPCT), and they showed high caries risk, so it should establish a protocol prior to transplantation. Material and methods The study included 72 patients due for HPCT. Clinical and radiological explorations were performed and oral photos taken. The amount of caries, missing teeth and fillings were registered for each patient. CAO, DMFS and Restoration Indices were calculated. Results 83% of patients presented caries. 48 patients (67%) …

Dental implants with versus without peri-implant bone defects treated with guided bone regeneration

2015

BACKGROUND: The guided bone regeneration (GBR) technique is highly successful for the treatment of peri-implant bone defects. The aim was to determine whether or not implants associated with GBR due to peri-implant defects show the same survival and success rates as implants placed in native bone without defects. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Patients with a minimum of two submerged dental implants: one suffering a dehiscence or fenestration defect during placement and undergoing simultaneous guided bone regeneration (test group), versus the other entirely surrounded by bone (control group) were treated and monitored annually for three years. Complications with the healing procedure, implant surviv…

Halitosis, reduced salivary flow and the quality of life in pre-kidney transplantation patients

2020

Background Halitosis is a condition that affects 50% of adults and one third of patients with chronic kidney disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate oral manifestations and volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) associated with halitosis and quality of life in pre-kidney transplantation candidates. Material and Methods The organoleptic test (OT) and halimetry (HA) (before and after cysteine mouthwash) were performed in patients with the Oralchroma® device, stimulated (SE) and non-stimulated sialometry (SN), Tongue Coating Index (TCI). The OHIP-14 questionnaire was administered to assess the impact of oral health on quality of life. Results Fourteen individuals with a mean age of 49.64 ± 13…

Management of Antiaggregated and Anticoagulated Patients Scheduled for Thoracic Surgery: Recommendations for Venous Thromboprophylaxis

2017

The management of patients under the effect of antiplatelet or anticoagulant agents is a common challenge in thoracic surgery. Their temporary interruption or continuation needs a balanced assessment between the risk of thrombosis (interruption) and bleeding (continuation). Moreover, most patients must receive an anticoagulant for thromboprophylaxis (mainly a low-molecular-weight heparin). So, it is important to have in mind all surgical and anaesthetic implications of these drugs to take the optimal decision in each case.

Assoziation einer arteriellen Verschlußkrankheit mit Ciclosporin-Therapie nach Nierentransplantation

2008

Renal transplantation followed by immunosuppression with cyclosporine (whole-blood levels 200-300 micrograms/l) and methylprednisolone (4 mg daily) was performed in a 54-year-old man with chronic glomerulonephritis. Three years later rapidly progressive arterial obstructive disease (peripheral type) developed. Parenteral treatment with prostaglandins, calcium antagonists and nitrates, as well as a lumbar sympathectomy, was unsuccessful so that, in rapid succession, several amputations on upper and lower limbs became necessary. The disease progression was arrested only when azathioprine replaced cyclosporine. Raynaud's phenomenon, present at the time, also disappeared and analgesics were no …
