Purpose RayStretch is a simple algorithm proposed for heterogeneity corrections in low-dose–rate brachytherapy. It is built on top of TG-43 consensus data, and it has been validated with Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. In this study, we take a real clinical prostate implant with 71 125I seeds as reference and we apply RayStretch to analyze its performance in worst-case scenarios. Background: We present a series of skin-sparing mastectomies (SSMs) with skin reduction and immediate breast reconstruction to treat large and ptotic breasts. The technique combines oncological mastectomy with immediate subpectoral implant placement as a single-step procedure. Methods: Data was collected from a prospective database from February 2009 to April 2011. A total of 24 patients with macromastia or pronounced ptosis fulfilled the criteria for skin-saving mastectomy. Before a patient is placed on the waiting list for liver transplantation, a variety of screening procedures are performed, including laboratory tests and radiological procedures. One goal is to search for abnormalities that preclude liver transplantation. Another is to detect abnormalities that in some way will affect the operative procedure. The individual periopera- tive risk is evaluated by searching for pulmonary, cardiac, and renal changes.

This is a report on a neonatal primary hyperparathyroidism (NPHPT) treated by total parathyroidectomy and autotransplantation of parathyroid tissue into the forearm musculature. Histologically, the glands were composed of a "chief cell hyperplasia" of the parathyroid tissue. Clinical manifestation in neonates and differential diagnosis of HPT are discussed. Indication for operation and surgical procedure are described.
