Erosion and screening of tungsten during inter/intra-ELM periods in the JET-ILW divertor
2020
Abstract Intra-ELM tungsten sources, which dominate the total W source, are quantified in the inner and outer divertor of JET-ILW. The amount of the sputtered W atoms for individual ELMs demonstrates a clear dependence on the ELM frequency. It decreases when the pedestal temperature is lower and, correspondingly, the ELM frequency is higher. Nevertheless, the entire gross erosion W source (the number of eroded W atoms per second due to ELMs) increases initially with ELM frequency and reaches its maximum at fELM ≈ 50–55 Hz followed by its reduction in the high frequency range. The in/out asymmetry of the intra-ELM W sources during ELMs is a critical issue and is investigated in this contribu…
PLASMA ANTIOXIDANT CAPACITY STATUS AFTER RED WINE CONSUMPTION
2013
Several studies report that the plasma antioxidant capacity (PAC) increases after a single ingestion of red wine. However, data on the different behaviour of PAC after food intake in subjects of the same sex are still lacking. On the basis of these observations some investigations were undertaken in order to evaluate the effects of red wine intake on PAC in a homogeneous groups of healthy female volunteers (n=18). Additionally, the possible correlation between increase of PAC values and increase in uric acid levels was also assessed. PAC and uric acid concentrations were determined before wine intake and 50, 120 and 240 minutes thereafter. The results obtained following these studied highli…
Condensation of classical optical waves beyond the cubic nonlinear Schrodinger equation
2012
International audience; A completely classical nonlinear wave is known to exhibit a process of condensation whose thermodynamic properties are analogous to those of the genuine Bose-Einstein condensation. So far this phenomenon of wave condensation has been studied essentially in the framework of the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation with a pure cubic Kerr nonlinearity. We study wave condensation by considering two representative generalizations of the NLS equation that are relevant to the context of nonlinear optics, the nonlocal nonlinearity and the saturable nonlinearity. For both cases we derive analytical expressions of the condensate fraction in the weakly and the strongly nonlinea…

Automated multi-dimensional liquid chromatography
2004
A comprehensive on-line sample clean-up with an integrated two-dimensional HPLC system was developed for the analysis of natural peptides. Samples comprised of endogenous peptides with molecular weights up to 20 kDa were generated from human hemofiltrate (HF) obtained from patients with chronic renal failure. The (poly-)peptides were separated using novel silica-based restricted access materials with strong cation-exchange functionalities (SCX-RAM). The size-selective sample fractionation step is followed by cation-exchange chromatography as the first dimension. The subsequent second dimension of separation is based on hydrophobic interaction using four parallel short reversed-phase (RP) co…
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in dental and oral surgery: from the wound healing to bone regeneration
2013
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a new approach to tissue regeneration and it is becoming a valuable adjunct to promote healing in many procedures in dental and oral surgery, especially in aging patients. PRP derives from the centrifugation of the patient's own blood and it contains growth factors that influence wound healing, thereby playing an important role in tissue repairing mechanisms. The use of PRP in surgical practice could have beneficial outcomes, reducing bleeding and enhancing soft tissue healing and bone regeneration. Studies conducted on humans have yielded promising results regarding the application of PRP to many dental and oral surgical procedures (i.e. tooth extractions, per…
Cost Effective Treatments to Replace Galvanic Processes
2009
Some of the most severe problems in the replacement of galvanic treatment with PVD coatings reside, first of all, in the higher costs of vacuum processes and in the difficulty to coat many 3D small samples. This work describes the results obtained by using energetic deposition vacuum processes, of the family of Ion Plating Plasma Assisted (IPPA), using both thermal and sputtering sources, able to reduce dramatically the duration of deposition process and to eliminate the substrate heating and their pre-cleaning. Regarding the small 3D samples, an innovative structure, named "Ionic Rotarybarrel" is presented. The realised treatments are in the fields of decorative, protective and tribologica…
Impurity analysis of JET DiMPle pulses
2021
Divertor monitoring pulses (DiMPle) have been run in JET from the C35 campaign onwards. They provide an opportunity to study the impurity contamination of the plasma when it is limited by different surfaces within the machine, as well as the longer term behaviour of the impurities. In these discharges the plasma is first limited on the outer wall, then on the inner wall and, subsequently, in the X-point configuration the outer strike point is positioned on the horizontal tile 5 of the machine followed by tile 6 and then the vertical tile 7. The present study details the impurity behaviour in the DiMPle pulses from JET-ILW campaigns C35 to C38, which ran from 2015 to 2019. The impurities can…
