Event-by-event distributions of azimuthal asymmetries in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions

Relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics is a common tool to describe the space-time evolution of the strongly interacting matter created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. For a proper comparison to experimental data, fluid-dynamical calculations have to be performed on an event-by-event basis. Therefore, fluid dynamics should be able to reproduce, not only the event-averaged momentum anisotropies, $$, but also their distributions. Density and geometry of single component plasmas

Abstract The density and geometry of p ¯ and e + plasmas in realistic trapping potentials are required to understand and optimize antihydrogen ( H ¯ ) formation. An aperture method and a quadrupole oscillation frequency method for characterizing such plasmas are compared for the first time, using electrons in a cylindrical Penning trap. Both methods are used in a way that makes it unnecessary to assume that the plasmas are spheroidal, and it is shown that they are not. Good agreement between the two methods illustrates the possibility to accurately determine plasma densities and geometries within non-idealized, realistic trapping potentials.
Multi-strange baryon production in p Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV

The multi-strange baryon yields in Pb--Pb collisions have been shown to exhibit an enhancement relative to pp reactions. In this work, $\Xi$ and $\Omega$ production rates have been measured with the ALICE experiment as a function of transverse momentum, ${p_{\rm T}}$, in p-Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of ${\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV. The results cover the kinematic ranges 0.6 GeV/$c<{p_{\rm T}} <$7.2 GeV/$c$ and 0.8 GeV/$c<{p_{\rm T}}<$ 5 GeV/$c$, for $\Xi$ and $\Omega$ respectively, in the common rapidity interval -0.5 $<{y_{\rm CMS}}<$ 0. Cosmological radiation density with non-standard neutrino-electron interactions

Neutrino non-standard interactions (NSI) with electrons are known to alter the picture of neutrino decoupling from the cosmic plasma. NSI modify both flavour oscillations through matter effects, and the annihilation and scattering between neutrinos and electrons and positrons in the thermal plasma. In view of the forthcoming cosmological observations, we perform a precision study of the impact of non-universal and flavour-changing NSI on the effective number of neutrinos, $N_{eff}$. Q values of the 76Ge and 100Mo double-beta decays

Abstract Penning trap measurements using mixed beams of 76Ge–76Se and 100Mo–100Ru have been utilized to determine the double-beta decay Q-values of 76Ge and 100Mo with uncertainties less than 200 eV. The value for 76Ge, 2039.04(16) keV is in agreement with the published SMILETRAP value, 2039.006(50) keV. The new value for 100Mo, 3034.40(17) keV is 30 times more precise than the previous literature value, sufficient for the ongoing neutrinoless double-beta decay searches in 100Mo. Moreover, the precise Q-value is used to calculate the phase-space integrals and the experimental nuclear matrix element of double-beta decay.

Neutrino-pair emission due to electron-phonon scattering in a neutron star crust: a reappraisal

The process of $\nu \bar{\nu}$ radiation due to interaction of electrons with phonons in the crust of a cooling neutron star is studied with the consistent account of an electromagnetic coupling between electrons in the medium. The wavelength of radiated neutrinos and antineutrinos is typically much larger than the electron Debye screening distance in the medium, and therefore plasma polarization substantially modifies the effective weak current of the electron. Is shown, that under above conditions plasma polarization screens totally a vector weak interaction of the electron with a neutrino field. As a result, the $\nu \bar{\nu}$ emissivity is less in approximately 2.23 times than previous…
J/ψ dissociation cross sections in a relativistic quark model

We calculate the amplitudes and the cross sections of the charm dissociation processes J/\psi \pi => D \bar D, D* \bar D, D \bar D*, D* \bar D* within a relativistic constituent quark model. We consistently account for the contributions coming from both the box and triangle diagrams that contribute to the dissociation processes. The cross section is dominated by the D* \bar D and D* \bar D* channels. When summing up the four channels we find a maximum total cross section of about 2.3 mb at sqrt(s) \approx 4.1 GeV. We compare our results to the results of other model calculations.
Centrality dependence of the pseudorapidity density distribution for charged particles in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV

We present the charged-particle pseudorapidity density in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02\,\mathrm{Te\kern-.25exV}$ in centrality classes measured by ALICE. The measurement covers a wide pseudorapidity range from $-3.5$ to $5$, which is sufficient for reliable estimates of the total number of charged particles produced in the collisions. For the most central (0-5%) collisions we find $21\,400\pm 1\,300$ while for the most peripheral (80-90%) we find $230\pm 38$. This corresponds to an increase of $(27\pm4)\%$ over the results at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=2.76\,\mathrm{Te\kern-.25exV}$ previously reported by ALICE. Beauty production in pp collisions at s=2.76 TeV measured via semi-electronic decays

The ALICE Collaboration at the LHC reports measurement of the inclusive production cross section of electrons from semi-leptonic decays of beauty hadrons with rapidity |y|<0.8 and transverse momentum 1<pT<10 GeV/c, in pp collisions at s=2.76 TeV. Electrons not originating from semi-electronic decay of beauty hadrons are suppressed using the impact parameter of the corresponding tracks. The production cross section of beauty decay electrons is compared to the result obtained with an alternative method which uses the distribution of the azimuthal angle between heavy-flavour decay electrons and charged hadrons.
