Stark effect in some lines of neutral bromine

Abstract This work presents experimental results of profile parameters for prominent lines of neutral bromine, for which serious discrepancies between experimental values of different authors as well as between experimental and calculated values were observed. The observed discrepancies between shock tube and earlier arc experiments are very large. Our results of profile parameters, obtained also in a wall-stabilized arc, show acceptable agreement with the earlier arc measurements. It is obvious, that the shock tube experimental result is out of the range of acceptable inaccuracy and should be remeasured. Development of accelerator mass spectrometry assisted by isotope-selective laser photodetachment for monitoring 129I

Abstract A prototype system was developed to investigate an isotope-selective laser photodetachment technique for a 129 I accelerator mass spectrometer. A pulsed ion source for negative iodine ions (I − ) that employed laser ablation proved to be suitable for isotope-selective laser photodetachment. Laser photodetachment of pulsed negative iodine ions was estimated to have an efficiency of about 81% based on a model calculation for the prototype system with a tunable pulsed Ti:sapphire laser.
Determination of gas temperature of high-frequency low-temperature electrodeless plasma using molecular spectra of hydrogen and hydroxyl-radical

Abstract In this study we determine gas temperature of He+H 2 , Ar+H 2 and Ne+H 2 high frequency electrodeless lamps using intensity distribution in rotational spectra of hydrogen molecule and hydroxyl radical. The measurement results show that OH rotational spectra can be successfully used for estimation of gas temperature of the high-frequency electrodeless lamps at very small amounts of hydrogen present in plasma. The analysis of the measurement results leads to the conclusion that in “pure” plasma the applied energy is used to heat plasma, while for the plasma with hydrogen addition the energy is used in chemical reactions.

Abstract An argon-praseodymium plasma was generated under atmospheric pressure between a ceramic ferroelectric plate and a praseodymium plate. The system of plates was connected to an acoustic frequency supply. The plasma radiation was analyzed in the spectral range from 2000 to 7000 A by using a grating spectrograph with a linear dispersion near 1 mm/A, adopted to photoelectric measurements. The emission spectrum of praseodymium was recorded and the intensities of a few hundred lines were measured. A new off-line ion source facility at IGISOL

An off-line ion source station has been commissioned at the IGISOL (Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line) facility. It offers the infrastructure needed to produce stable ion beams from three off-line ion sources in parallel with the radioactive ion beams produced from the IGISOL target chamber. This has resulted in improved feasibility for new experiments by offering reference ions for Penning-trap mass measurements, laser spectroscopy and atom trap experiments.
A sextupole ion beam guide to improve the efficiency and beam quality at IGISOL

The laser ion source project at the IGISOL facility, Jyvaskyla, has motivated the development and construction of an rf sextupole ion beam guide (SPIG) to replace the original skimmer electrode. The SPIG has been tested both off-line and on-line in proton-induced fission, light-ion and heavy-ion induced fusion-evaporation reactions and, in each case, has been directly compared to the skimmer system. For both fission and light-ion induced fusion, the SPIG has improved the mass-separated ion yields by a factor of typically 4 to 8. A multiple linear regression technique was used to evaluate the matrix interferences in the determination of hydride-forming elements in lead shotgun pellets by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. The determination of arsenic, antimony, and tin in SRM C2416 (Bullet Lead) by ICP-AES failed to obtain the certified concentrations at the 95% level of confidence using the t-test. However, it proved possible, by using the multiple linear regression technique, to correct the concentrations of all three elements to a statistically acceptable level. Two different sample treatment methods are used in connection with inductively coupled plasma isotope dilution mass spectrometry for accurate and precise determinations of iodine traces in food samples. 129I-enriched iodate is applied as a spike compound for the isotope dilution step. Extraction of iodine by tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) solution at high temperatures in a closed vessel is one of the sample treatment methods. An isotope dilution inductively coupled plasma quadrupole mass spectrometric (ID-ICP-QMS) method was developed for the simultaneous determination of the platinum group elements Pt, Pd, Ru, and Ir in environmental samples. Spike solutions, enriched with the isotopes 194Pt, 108Pd, 99Ru, and 191Ir, were used for the isotope dilution step. Interfering elements were eliminated by chromatographic separation using an anion-exchange resin. Samples were dissolved with aqua regia in a high pressure asher.
