The use of platinum based chemotherapy in ovarian malignancy and other cancer types is known to be associated with deep vein thrombosis. In a prospective study of 47 patients with ovarian cancer of International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage Ib-IV, serial rheological parameters were determined (plasma viscosity, red blood cell aggregation under conditions of stasis and low shear) in addition to hemoglobin, hematocrit, leukocytes, platelets, and fibrinogen. Historically, liver biopsy (LB) was the sole method to evaluate the severity of hepatic fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C infection. However, LB is expensive and associated with a risk of severe complications. Therefore, noninvasive tests have been developed to assess the severity of liver fibrosis. To evaluate the computed tomographic (CT) findings in adult patients with pathologically proved congenital hepatic fibrosis.This was a retrospective review of congenital hepatic fibrosis cases identified at two institutions over the course of 8 years. AIM: To assess the prevalence of advanced liver fibrosis (ALF) in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and HIV/HCV patients using transient elastography, and to identify factors associated with ALF. Heterozygous activating variants in platelet-derived growth factor, beta (PDGFRB) are associated with phenotypes including Kosaki overgrowth syndrome (KOGS), Penttinen syndrome and infantile myofibromatosis (IM). Here, we present three new cases of KOGS, including a patient with a novel de novo variant c.1477A > T p.(Ser493Cys), and the oldest known individual age 53 years. The KOGS phenotype includes characteristic facial features, tall stature, scoliosis, hyperelastic thin skin, lipodystrophy, variable intellectual and neurological deterioration, and abnormalities on brain imaging. Despite the wide use of G-CSF for mobilization of PBPC the best dose and schedule of G-CSF has not been definitively established. In this study we have compared three different schedules of G-CSF for mobilization of PBPC in normal donors including a single daily dose of 10 microg/kg/day for 5 days (21 donors) and doses of 6 (21 donors) or 8 microg/kg/12 h (6 donors) for 5 days. We demonstrate that G-CSF at doses of 6 and 8 microg/kg/12 h mobilizes significantly more CD34+ cells/ml of blood (83.3 +/- 6.7 and 121 +/- 6.9, respectively) than 10 microg/kg/day (71.6 +/- 6.5). Abstract Thromboxane A 2 (TXA 2 ) biosynthesis is enhanced in the majority of patients with type IIa hypercholesterolemia.
