Quantification of growth factors by using a new system for obtaining platelet-rich plasma
2010
Objective: To verify the performance of a new method for obtaining platelet-rich plasma, while avoiding contami- nation of the sample during its processing. Study Design: Twenty healthy patients were selected, from whom 21 ml of blood was etracted. e then pro- Design: Twenty healthy patients were selected, from whom 21 ml of blood was etracted. e then pro- esign: Twenty healthy patients were selected, from whom 21 ml of blood was etracted. e then pro- ceeded to study the platelets and growth factors in basal blood after centrifuging the sample by using a new closed system for obtaining platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Results: After centrifuging the blood sample, double the amount of platelet…
Template induced crystallization of biominerals on self-assembled monolayers of alkylthiols
1998
Abstract We have studied the templated crystallization of the three polymorphs of calcium carbonate on self-assembled monolayers of ω -substituted alkylthiols on gold surfaces. Our interest has been to model biomineralization processes by examining the effect of structured organic templates on heterogeneous nucleation at the inorganic–organic interphase. The crystallization of the three polymorphs was carried out from solution at two different temperatures. The crystals that were formed on the surface were examined using scanning electron microscopy. Phase quantification was achieved through Rietveld analysis of the X-ray diffraction profiles. This study provides significant clues on factor…

Platelet proteome analysis reveals an early hyperactive phenotype in SARS-CoV-2-infected humanized ACE2 mice
2021
AbstractCoronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) provokes a hypercoagulable state with increased incidence of thromboembolism and mortality. Platelets are major effectors of thrombosis and hemostasis. Suitable animal models are needed to better understand COVID-19-associated coagulopathy (CAC) and underlying platelet phenotypes. Here, we assessed K18-hACE2 mice undergoing a standardized SARS-CoV-2 infection protocol to study dynamic platelet responses via mass spectrometry-based proteomics. In total, we found significant changes in >1,200 proteins. Strikingly, protein alterations occurred rapidly by 2 days post-infection (dpi) and preceded outward clinical signs of severe disease. Pathway enr…
Preclinical and clinical evidence of activity of pazopanib in solitary fibrous tumour
2014
Abstract Background To explore the activity of pazopanib in solitary fibrous tumour (SFT). Patients and methods In a preclinical study, we compared the activity of pazopanib, sorafenib, sunitinib, regorafenib, axitinib and bevacizumab in a dedifferentiated-SFT (DSFT) xenotransplanted into Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) mice. Antiangiogenics were administered at their reported optimal doses when mean tumour volume (TV) was 80 mm3. Drug activity was assessed as TV inhibition percentage (TVI%). From May 2012, six consecutive patients with advanced SFT received pazopanib, on a national name-based programme. In one case sunitinib was administered after pazopanib failure. Results In the …
Combining land preparation and vegetation restoration for optimal soil eco-hydrological services in the Loess Plateau, China
2019
Abstract In semiarid terrestrial ecosystems, optimized eco-rehabilitation strategies, such as land preparations and planting vegetation, are keys to achieve a successful ecological restoration. Land preparations and vegetation are supposed to have the coupled and respective impacts on soil ecosystem services, which are still unclear now. In this study, eighteen experimental plots with six different combinations and repetitions of land preparations and vegetation were built in the Chinese Loess Plateau in 2014 and soil moisture storages (SMS), soil carbon stocks (SCS) and other soil nutrient stocks were calculated at 0–100 cm, also the effects of land preparations and planting vegetation on …
Gas chromatographic analysis of resveratrol in plasma, lipoproteins and cells after in vitro incubations
1998
Resveratrol is a trihydroxystilbene present in certain red wines. It may play a role in the inhibition of lipoprotein oxidation and platelet activity. We have developed the first method to measure resveratrol in animal and human samples and to study its incorporation in vitro. After adding epicoprostanol as an internal standard, samples are subjected to lipid extraction in the presence of antioxidant and under dim light to minimize both denaturation and isomerization of the trans-resveratrol to the cis-form. Extracts were purified by cold acetone precipitation and the resveratrol-containing acetone phase was evaporated under nitrogen. The resveratrol was analyzed as a trimethylsilyl derivat…
Novel general expressions that describe the behavior of the height equivalent of a theoretical plate in chromatographic systems involving electricall…
2002
Novel general expressions are constructed and presented that describe the behavior of the height equivalent of a theoretical plate (plate height), H, as a function of the linear velocity, Vx, along the axis, x, of the column and the kinetic parameters that characterize the mass transfer and adsorption mechanisms in chromatographic columns. Open tube capillaries as well as columns packed with either non-porous or porous particles are studied. The porous particles could have unimodal or bimodal pore-size distributions and intraparticle convective fluid flow and pore diffusion are considered. The expressions for the plate height, H, presented in this work could be applicable to high-performanc…
