Digital Platforms for Restructuring the Public Sector
2018
Many technological innovations have led to the emergence of the platform economy in recent years. This development is changing the entire landscape of business in the era of digitalisation. However, the impacts of the platform economy on public services and government are not well known. In this article we study the potential for the digital platform economy to help restructure the public sector. Firstly, central features of the new platform technology are explored, pointing to an algorithmic revolution, big data and cloud computing. Platforms are used in coordinating market transactions in an extremely efficient way. In order to apply the platform-concept to the public sector, an experimen…

A SOA-based health service platform in smart home environment
2011
The increasing demand for a good healthcare quality has brought Information and Communication Technology to an important role in healthcare domain. The trend in decreasing number of formal healthcare workers gives further pressure to move non-urgent treatments to the patients' homes. However, delivering healthcare services to meet the changing needs of inhabitants in a smart home requires an open and flexible service creation and integration environment so that the modification of existing services as well as creation of new services can be achieved in a timely manner. This paper presents a vision of a logical integration platform in a smart home environment, integrating various devices and…
Weighted Evaluation Framework for Cross-Platform App Development Approaches
2016
Cross-platform app development is very challenging, although only two platforms with significant market share (iOS and Android) remain. While device fragmentation – multiple, only partly compatible versions of a platform – has been complicating matters already, the need to target different device classes is a new emergence. Smartphones and tablets are relatively similar but app-enabled devices such as TVs and even cars typically have differing capabilities. To facilitate usage of cross-platform app development approaches, we present work on an evaluation framework. Our framework provides a set of up-to-date evaluation criteria. Unlike prior work on this topic, it offers weighted assessment …
Wykorzystanie platformy MS Teams w nauczaniu przedmiotów humanistycznych
2021
The presented chapter describes experience of working with students on the MS Teams platform. There is described the outbreak of the epidemic in which all participants of the educational process found themselves as a complete novelty, which forced everyone to seek a way out of the impasse and find themselves in a different educational reality. Then, there is presented the specificity of particular classes conducted on the MS Teams platform, indicating the methods of work which were used, adjusting them to the capabilities, interests, level of language proficiency, and even the size of particular groups. In the next subchapter there are discussed the benefits and risks of online teaching, wh…

Geology of Monte Gallo (Palermo Mts, NW Sicily)
2016
The promontory of Monte Gallo (Palermo, NW Sicily) is a spectacular site where Upper Triassic-Eocene carbonate platform rocks and Quaternary continental to marine deposits are well exposed. A Mesozoic-Paleogene rock succession allows the potential visitor to easily detect the features and the evolution of the Panormide carbonate platform, a shallow-water paleogeographic domain of the Southern Tethyan margin. Quaternary deposits, as well many landforms, enable the visitor to directly identify the interplay between climate changes, tectonics and fluctuations of marine level that occurred during the Quaternary Period. A detailed geological map (1:15,000 mapping scale) is presented, accompanied…
Marginal bone loss in relation to platform switching implant insertion depth: an update
2011
A review is made, analyzing marginal bone loss in relation to the depth of implant insertion with platform switching, according to the position of the neck (supracrestal, crestal or subcrestal), and evaluating survival of the implants. A PubMed search was made of the studies in animals and humans published between 2005 and 2011, specifying platform insertion depth (supracrestal, crestal or subcrestal) and registering marginal bone loss from the time of prosthetic restoration to the end of follow-up (minimum 6 months). A total of 30 studies were included. The bone loss associated with implants placed at supracrestal level was slightly smaller than in the case of implants placed at subcrestal…
Clinical and radiographic performance of self‐locking conical connection implants in the posterior mandible: Five‐year results of a two‐centre prospe…
2021
Abstract Objective This prospective study aims to assess the 5‐year clinical performance of implants with internal conical connection and platform‐switched abutments in the posterior mandible. Material and Methods Healthy adults missing at least two teeth in the posterior mandible and with a natural tooth mesial to the implant site received two or three adjacent implants. After a transmucosal healing period single crown restorations were cemented on platform‐switched abutments. Changes in marginal bone levels were investigated in standardized periapical radiographs from surgery and loading (baseline) to 60‐months post‐loading. Results Twenty‐four patients received 52 implants. Bone remodell…
