Small-sized platinum nanoparticles in soil organic matter: Influence on water holding capacity, evaporation and structural rigidity
2019
Abstract Engineered and anthropogenic nanoparticles represent a new type of pollutants. Up until now, many studies have reported its adverse effect on biota, but the potential influence on the properties and functions of environmental compartments has largely been ignored. In this work, the effect of Pt nanoparticles on the functions and properties of model soil organic matter has been studied. Using differential scanning calorimetry and molecular modeling, the effect of a wide range of 3 nm Pt nanoparticles concentrations on water holding capacity, the strength of water binding, the stability of water molecule bridges and the content of aliphatic crystallites was studied. It was found that…
Protonation and methylation reactions of 2-pyridyl-palladium(II) and -platinum(II) complexes
1983
Abstract The reactions of strong acids HX and HClO4 with the 2-pyridyl complexes [PdX(μ-C5H4N-C2,N)(PPh3)]2 (X = Cl, Br), trans-[PdCl(C5H4N-C2)(PEt3)2] and [PdCl(C5H4N-C2)(dppe)] yield the N-protonated derivatives cis-[PdX2-(C5H5N-C2)(PPh3)], trans-[PdCl(C5H5N-C2)(PEt3)2]ClO4 and [PdCl-(C5H5N-C2)(dppe)]ClO4, respectively. The terminal 2-pyridyl group of trans-[PdCl(C5H4N-C2)(PEt3)2] and [PdCl(C5H4N-C2)(dppe)] also reacts with Me2SO4/NaClO4 to give trans-[PdClC5H4(l-Me)N-C2(PEt3)2]ClO4 and [PdClC5H4(l-Me)N-C2(dppe)]ClO4. Analogous N-protonation or N-methylation reactions occur with trans-[PtBr(C5H4N-C2)(L)2] (L = PEt3, PPh3). The complexes trans-[MX(C5H5N-C2)(PMe2Ph)2]ClO4 (M = Pd, X = Cl an…
C,N-chelated diaminocarbene platinum(II) complexes derived from 3,4-diaryl-1H-pyrrol-2,5-diimines and cis-dichlorobis(isonitrile)platinum(II): Synthe…
2020
The reaction of 3,4-diaryl-1H-pyrrol-2,5-diimines with cis-dichlorobis(isonitrile)platinum(II) affords the C,N-chelated diaminocarbene platinum(II) complexes, which have been fully characterized including molecular spectroscopy, single crystal X-ray diffraction and DFT calculations. The obtained platinum(II) complexes are effective catalysts for the hydrosilylation of alkynes and alkenes. Thus, the reaction of phenylacetylene with triethoxysilane leads to the formation of α- and β-(E)-vinylsilanes, generating TON's in the range of 103 to 104 and TOF's in the range of 102 to 103 h−1. Also, the cross-linked silicones, possessing the luminescence properties, were obtained by the hydrosilylatio…
Anticancer Activity, Reduction Mechanism and G-Quadruplex DNA Binding of a Redox-Activated Platinum(IV)–Salphen Complex
2022
Aiming at reducing the unselective cytotoxicity of Pt(II) chemotherapeutics, a great deal of effort has been concentrated into the design of metal-containing drugs with different anticancer mechanisms of action. Inert Pt(IV) prodrugs have been proposed to be a valid alternative as they are activated by reduction directly into the cell releasing active Pt(II) species. On the other hand, a promising strategy for designing metallodrugs is to explore new potential biological targets rather than canonical B-DNA. G-quadruplex nucleic acid, obtained by self-assembly of guanine-rich nucleic acid sequences, has recently been considered an attractive target for anticancer drug design. Therefore, comp…
A combined NMR, DFT, and X-ray investigation of some cinchona alkaloid O-ethers.
2008
Structures and conformational behavior of several cinchona alkaloid O-ethers in the solid state (X-ray), in solution (NMR and DFT), and in the gas phase (DFT) were investigated. In the crystal, O-phenylcinchonidine adopts the Open(3) conformation similar to cinchonidine, whereas the O-methyl ether derivatives of both cinchonidine and cinchonine are packed in the Closed(1) conformation. Dynamic equilibria in solutions of the alkaloids were revealed by combined experimental-theoretical spin simulation/iteration techniques for the first time. In the (1)H NMR spectra in CDCl3 and toluene-d8 at room temperature, Closed(1) conformation was observed for the O-silyl ethers as a separate set of sign…
Mono- and polynuclear complexes of Pt(II) with polypyridyl ligands. Synthesis, spectroscopic and structural characterization and cytotoxic activity.
2007
Abstract An array of poly- and mononuclear complexes of Pt(II) with polypyridyl ligands is reported. The framework complexes [(PtCl 2 ) 2 (bpp) 2 (μ-PtCl 2 )](H 2 O) 2 [bpp = 2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine], [PtCl 2 (μ-tptz)PtClNCPh]Cl [tptz = 2,4,6-tris(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine], and mononuclear PtCl 2 (NH 2 dpt) [NH 2 dpt = 4-amino-3,5-bis(2-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazole] have been prepared and structurally characterized. Both neutral and ionic complexes are present, with bifunctional and monofunctional Pt(II) moieties, whose size and shape enable them to behave as novel scaffolds for DNA binding. Pt(II) complexes were tested for their biological activity. Cell viability assay and flow cytometric …

Synthesis and magnetic characterization of trans-dichloroplatinum blues with creatinine
1992
Abstract By reaction of trans -[Pt II Cl 4 ] 2− with the amidate ligand creatinine two new paramagnetic blue platinum complexes have been obtained, namely violet and green varieties. These complexes have been characterized from thermal analysis, EPR and magnetic susceptibility. The violet complex has been formulated as trans -[Pt(creat)(H 2 O)Cl] 4 Cl. This compound has shown to be very stable, showing an extensive hyperfine structure in the powder EPR spectra. This result is a clear evidence of a tetranuclear oligomeric structure with one delocalized unpaired spin in the unit. EPR spectra in frozen solutions indicate that this mixed-valence complex maintains its oligomeric structure upon d…
Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio helps select metastatic pancreatic cancer patients benefitting from oxaliplatin
2016
BACKGROUND: High Neutrophil/Lymphocyte ratio (NLR), as a measure of enhanced inflammatory response, has been negatively associated with prognosis in patients with localized pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA). OBJECTIVE: In the present study, we aimed at investigating the prognostic value of NLR in two homogeneous groups of chemotherapy-na've metastatic PDA patients. Patients were treated with either gemcitabine (GEM) or gemcitabine/ oxaliplatin (GEMOXA). We also assessed whether NLR could identify patients benefiting from the use of oxaliplatin. METHODS: Consecutive PDA patients treated at the Medical Oncology Unit of Tor Vergata University Hospital of Rome with either GEM or GEMOXA wer…
