Heads or Tails? Sandwich-Type Metallocomplexes of Hexakis(2,3-di-O-methyl)-α-cyclodextrin

Native and synthetically modified cyclodextrins (CDs) are useful building blocks in construction of large coordination complexes and porous materials with various applications. Sandwich-type complexes (STCs) are one of the important groups in this area. Usually, coordination of secondary hydroxyls or the “head” portal of native CD molecules to a notional multinuclear ring of metal cations leads to formation of head-to-head STCs. Our study introduces a new CD-ligand, hexakis(2,3-di-O-methyl)-α-cyclodextrin, which enables formation of intriguing head-to-head, but also novel tail-to-tail STCs. We demonstrate a new metal-wire waveguide topology, namely a four-wire waveguide, which simultaneously acts as a broadband terahertz polarization-division multiplexer and as a novel platform to realize the independent manipulation of polarization-division multiplexed terahertz signals.

Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman kirjallisuusosa käsittelee resorsinareenien metallikomplekseja. Tarkastelussa on keskitytty erityisesti resorsinareenien metallikompleksien rakenteeseen ja koordinaatiogeometriaan. Tutkielma on jaoteltu siirtymä- ja alkalimetalleihin sitoutuviin resorsinareeneihin, ja nämä on jaoteltu vielä tarkemmin resorsinareenien mukaan. These challenges include preprocessing the data, modelling the objective functions, getting a meaningful formulation of the problem, and supporting decision makers to find preferred solutions in the existence of conflicting objective functions. In this paper, we tackle the problem of optimizing the composition of microalloyed steels to get good mechanical properties such as yield strength, percentage elongation, and Charpy energy. Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a neurodegenerative disorder defined clinically by progressive lower limb spasticity and weakness. HSP is a genetically highly heterogeneous condition with at least 46 gene loci identified so far, involving X-linked, autosomal recessive (AR) and autosomal dominant inheritance. For correct diagnosis, molecular testing is essential because clinical parameters by themselves are not reliable to differentiate HSP forms. Otrzymano kompleksy niklu [N,N]NiBr2, które po aktywacji związkiem glinoorganicznym zastosowano w polimeryzacji metakrylanu metylu (MMA). Dwukleszczowe ligandy [N,N] uzyskano zastępując w ligandach salenowych grupy hydroksylowe podstawione do pierścieni fenylowych różnymi grupami alkoksylowymi (OMe lub OCH2C6H5). Metyloalumoksan (MAO) okazał się skutecznym aktywatorem kompleksów niklu w polimeryzacji MMA. Same kompleksy bez aktywatora nie wykazywały żadnej aktywności. Stwierdzono, że aktywność badanych układów katalitycznych rośnie ze wzrostem stosunku molowego Al/Ni. Quantitative data on the stability of mono-, di- and trimethyltin(IV)-carboxylate complexes (acetate, malonate, succinate, malate, oxydiacetate, diethylenetrioxydiacetate, tricarballylate, citrate, butanetetracarboxylate and mellitate) are reported at t=25°C and I → 0 mol l - 1 . Several mononuclear, mixed proton, mixed hydroxo and polynuclear species are formed in these systems. As expected, the stability trend is mono- > di- > trimethyltin(IV) and mono < di < tri < tetra < hexa for the organotin moieties and carboxylate ligands investigated, respectively.
