Constant Power Model in Arm Rotation—A New Approach to Hill’s Equation

The purpose of this study was to further develop the constant power model of a previous study and to provide the final solution of Hill’s force-velocity equation. Forearm and whole arm rotations of three different subjects were performed downwards (elbow and shoulder extension) and upwards (elbow and shoulder flexion) with maximum velocity. These arm rotations were recorded with a special camera system and the theoretically derived model of constant maximum power was fitted to the experimentally measured data. SUMMARY Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an inflammatory systemic disease affecting the spine, sacroiliacal and peripheral joints. Although the aetiology of AS remains unknown, the strong association with the HLA-B27 allele might reflect directly a detrimental effect of the HLA-B27 molecule itself, resulting from its potential capability to present ‘arthritogenic’ peptides to CD8+ T cells. Objective. Complement activation products contribute to a large number of inflammatory diseases, including RA. We have investigated whether osteoprotegerin (OPG) may concur with the soluble terminal complement complex (SC5b-9) to the inflammatory cascade characterizing RA. Methods. Levels of SC5b-9 and OPG in the plasma and SF of patients with active RA were determined by ELISA. The presence of SC5b-9 and OPG in RA synovial lesions was analysed by immunohistochemistry. Osteoprotegerin: a new biomarker for impaired bone metabolism in complex regional pain syndrome?

Abstract Osteoprotegerin (OPG) is important for bone remodeling and may contribute to complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) pathophysiology. We aimed to assess the value of OPG as a biomarker for CRPS and a possible correlation with radiotracer uptake in 3-phase bone scintigraphy (TPBS). OPG levels were analyzed in 23 CRPS patients (17 women; mean age 50 ± 9.0 years; disease duration: 12 weeks [IQR 8–24]), 10 controls (6 women; mean age 58 ± 9.6 years) and 21 patients after uncomplicated fractures (12 women; mean age: 43 ± 15 years; time after fracture: 15 weeks [IQR: 6–22]). Pain and clinical findings in the low back: a study of industrial employees with 5-, 10-, and 28-year follow-ups.

Little is known about the relationships of clinical findings in the low back with low back pain (LBP) in the normal working population. We studied whether physiotherapist's findings in the low back were associated with local and radiating LBP among a cohort (n=902) of employees in the engineering industry. A systematic non-proportional sample was drawn in strata by age, gender, and occupational class. The non-proportionality aimed at increasing sample size in smaller strata. Dystroglycan regulates structure, proliferation and differentiation of neuroepithelial cells in the developing vertebrate CNS.

AbstractIn the developing CNS α- and β-dystroglycan are highly concentrated in the endfeet of radial neuroepithelial cells at the contact site to the basal lamina. We show that injection of anti-dystroglycan Fab fragments, knockdown of dystroglycan using RNAi, and overexpression of a dominant-negative dystroglycan protein by microelectroporation in neuroepithelial cells of the chick retina and optic tectum in vivo leads to the loss of their radial morphology, to hyperproliferation, to an increased number of postmitotic neurons, and to an altered distribution of several basally concentrated proteins.
