Lasten ja nuorten heikkenevä lukutaito on viime vuosina herättänyt huolta niin tieteellisessä kuin julkisessa keskustelussa. Herättelijöinä ovat toimineet ennen kaikkea Pisa-tutkimukset, jotka ovat raportoineet suomalaisnuorten peruskoulussa saavutetun lukutaidon laskusta. Abstract Introduction Red yeast rice (RYR) is an effective cholesterol-lowering nutraceutical reversibly inhibiting 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-CoA (HMG-CoA) reductase. As liver damage is a possible (albeit rare) side effect of HMG-CoA inhibitors, it make sense to focus on the tolerability of the liver to RYR extracts. The aim of this paper is to offer an expert opinion on the risk of liver damage by the use of RYR extract. Suomalaisten nuorten tupakointi on vähentynyt, kun taas nuuskakokeilut ja nuuskan käyttö ovat lisääntyneet. Aiempien tutkimusten mukaan nuuskan käyttö on yleistä myös urheilijoiden keskuudessa. Tässä tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin nuorten salibandypelaajien nuuskakokeiluja ja nuuskan käyttöä sekä siihen yhteydessä olevia tekijöitä. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin sähköisellä kyselylomakkeella joulukuun 2016 ja tammikuun 2017 välisellä ajalla. Kyselyyn vastasi 449 pelaajaa (poikia 302, tyttöjä 147, keski-ikä 16,7 vuotta). Objectives: We investigated the association between outdoor air pollutants exposure in the first trimester of pregnancy, and growth and cardio-metabolic risk at four years of age, and evaluated the mediating role of birth weight. Methods: We included mother-child pairs (N = 1,724) from the Spanish INMA birth cohort established in 2003-2008. First trimester of pregnancy nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and fine particles (PM2.5) exposure levels were estimated.
