Current education policy responds to changes and needs in working life by guiding individuals at different stages of working careers to develop their skills in the spirit of lifelong learning. More and more are applying with hope and enthusiasm to the Open University to strengthen their competence but are unable to get their studies completed. Early science learning with a virtual tutor through multimedia explanations and feedback on spoken questions

The purpose of this pilot study with a within-subject design was to gain a deeper understanding about the promise and restrictions of a virtual tutoring system designed to teach science to first grade students in Finland. Participants were 61 students who received six tutoring science sessions of approximately 20 min each. Sessions consisted of a sequence of narrated multimedia science presentations during which a virtual tutor explained science phenomena displayed in pictures. Disrupting neural activity related to awake-state sharp wave-ripple complexes prevents hippocampal learning

Oscillations in hippocampal local-field potentials (LFPs) reflect the crucial involvement of the hippocampus in memory trace formation: theta (4–8 Hz) oscillations and ripples (~200 Hz) occurring during sharp waves are thought to mediate encoding and consolidation, respectively. During sharp wave-ripple complexes (SPW-Rs), hippocampal cell firing closely follows the pattern that took place during the initial experience, most likely reflecting replay of that event. What Doesn’t Work for the Lowest Level Literacy Learners and Why?

Traditional approaches for teaching reading to Low Educated Second Language and Literacy Acquisition (LESLLA) adults are problematic because foundational learning and cognitive areas are generally underdeveloped in these students. Three methods for reading instruction (phonics, sight words and whole language) are explored in light of the LESLLA learner. Task analyses are undertaken for each method, and gaps present in LESLLA learners are revealed. The task analysis method is advocated for lesson planning, and a recommendation is made for teachers to consider what is being expected of students when activities are presented. Tässä tutkielmassa tarkastellaan teoreettisista lähtökohdista käsin kuinka yksilön luovuutta voitaisiin paremmin tukea akateemisessa yrittäjyyskasvatuksessa. Tutkimusaiheen valintaan vaikutti se, että luovuus nähdään yrittäjyyskasvatuksen haasteena. Tutkimuksessa haetaan kattavaa ymmärrystä luovuuden ilmiöön lähestymällä sitä yksilön, kasvatuksen ja luovan työn prosessien näkökulmista.
