Glassy 2-(1-benzyl-2-styryl-6-methylpyridin-4(1H)-ylidene) fragment containing 1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione and pyrimidine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione derivati…

2020

A series of 2-(1-benzyl-2-(styryl)-6-methylpyridin-4(1H)-ylidene) fragment containing glassy organic compounds have been synthesized from relevant luminescent 4H-pyran-4-ylidene derivatives and investigated as potential solution processable emitters. Glass transition temperatures of synthesized 1H-pyridine compounds are above 100°C with thermal stabilities higher than 260°C. In the solutions of dichloromethane their absorption bands are in the range from 350 nm to 500 nm with photoluminescence from 500 nm to 650 nm. In a contrary to the 4H-pyran-4-ylidene derivatives, the incorporation of various electron acceptor fragments within the 1H-pyridine fragment containing molecules only slightly …

Hafnium-neodymium isotope evidence for enhanced weathering and tectonic-climate interactions during the Late Cretaceous

2022

<p>Over million-year timescale the carbon cycle evolution is driven by mantle CO2 degassing (source) and by continental weathering that drawdowns atmospheric CO2 through silicate weathering reactions (sink). Based on a novel geochemical proxy of chemical weathering intensity (i.e. using measurements of Hf and Nd isotope ratios in clay-size fractions of sediments) and clay mineralogy, we discuss the links between tectonic, continental weathering and climate evolution during the late Cretaceous. That period records the very first step of the last greenhouse to icehouse transition and is concomitant to …

The Author examines some of the amendments to the Code of Civil Procedure introduced with Legislative Decree no. 149/2022 and their applicability to the labor process. These are, in …

Assessing the Beneficial Effects of Economic Growth: The Harmonic Growth Index

2011

In this paper we introduce the multidimensional notion of harmonic growth as a situation of diffused well-being associated to an increase of per capita GDP. We say that a country experienced a harmonic growth if during the observed period all the key indicators, proxies of the endogenous and exogenous forces driving population well-being, show a significantly common pattern with the income dynamics. The notion is operationalized via an index of time series harmony which follows the functional data analysis approach. This Harmonic Growth Index (HGI) is based on comparisons between the coefficients from cubic B-splines interpolation. Such indices are then synthesized in order to provide the g…

A Tunable, Fullerene‐Based Molecular Amplifier for Vibrational Circular Dichroism

2019

Abstract Vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) studies are reported on a chiral compound in which a fullerene C60 moiety is used as an electron acceptor and local VCD amplifier for an alanine‐based peptide chain. Four redox states are investigated in this study, of which three are reduced species that possess low‐lying electronic states as confirmed by UV/Vis spectroelectrochemistry. VCD measurements in combination with (TD)DFT calculations are used to investigate (i) how the low‐lying electronic states of the reduced species modulate the amplification of VCD signals, (ii) how this amplification depends on the distance between oscillator and amplifier, and (iii) how the spatial extent of the…

Performance analysis of dual-pump nonlinear amplifying loop mirror mode-locked all-fibre laser

2019

We numerically characterise, in the three-dimensional space of adjustable cavity parameters, the performance of a recently reported layout of a flexible figure-8 laser having two independently pumped segments of active fibre in its bidirectional ring (Smirnov et al 2017 Opt. Lett. 42 1732–5). We show that this optimisation problem can be efficiently addressed by applying a regression model based on a neural-network algorithm.

A comparison between the single ring pressure infiltrometer and simplified falling head techniques

2013

Testing the relative performances of the single ring pressure infiltrometer (PI) and simplified falling head (SFH) techniques to determine the field saturated soil hydraulic conductivity, Kfs, at the near point scale may help to better establish the usability of these techniques for interpreting and simulating hydrological processes. A sampling of 10 Sicilian sites showed that the measured Kfs was generally higher with the SFH technique than the PI one, with statistically significant differences by a factor varying from 3 to 192, depending on the site. A short experiment with the SFH technique yielded higher Kfs values because a longer experiment with the PI probably promoted short-term swe…
