Sexual activity and life satisfaction in older adults
2018
Aim Based on the concept of successful ageing and research reports on the benefits of maintaining sexual activity in mid- to late life, the purpose of the current study was to examine the relationship between global life satisfaction and sexual satisfaction in adults older than 60 years. The study also analyzed the relationship between various forms of sexual activity (genital and non-genital) and both types of satisfaction. Diabetic ketoacidosis incidence among children withnew-onset type 1 diabetes in Poland and its associationwith COVID-19 outbreak—Two-year cross-secti…
2022
Background: There are several observations that the onset of coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) pandemic was associated with an increase in the incidence of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). However, due to heterogeneity in study designs and country-specific healthcare policies, more national-level evidence is needed to provide generalizable conclusions. Objective: To compare the rate of DKA in Polish children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) between the first year of COVID-19 pandemic (15 March 2020 to 15 March 2021) and the preceding year (15 March 2019 to 15 March 2020).Methods: Reference centers in 13 regions (covering ~88% of Polish children) retrospectively reported all new-onset T1D cases in ch…
Socio-clinical variables affecting the level of self-care in elderly patients with heart failure
2019
Background: Promoting self-care is the cornerstone of heart failure management. The number of hospitalizations and unscheduled visits could be reduced in elderly patients with heart failure by the patients’ active involvement in self-care. Aims: The aim of this study was to measure the level of self-care in elderly patients with heart failure, to examine the influence of socio-clinical variables on the level of self-care, and identify the socio-clinical variables that are predictors of self-care. Methods: The study included 100 heart failure patients (48 female, 52 male) aged between 60 and 88 years, treated at the Oleśno Health Care Center (Poland). The European Heart Failure Self-care Beh…
Association of physical fitness with quality of life in community-dwelling older adults aged 80 and over in Poland: a cross-sectional study
2021
Abstract Background Aging is a progressive and irreversible process that negatively affects the quality of life (QOL). Older adults face difficulties related to worsening health, lowering the level of physical and mental efficiency. We aimed to analyze the associations between physical fitness and QOL in Polish older adults considering sex differences. Methods This cross-sectional study was performed from March to August 2015. The sample consisted of 100 community-dwelling adults (67 women, 33 men) with a mean age of 82.94 ± 2.67 years. The World Health Organization QOL, Short Form questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF), and the Fullerton Functional Fitness Test (FFFT) were used. Biometric data, socia…
European public perceptions of homelessness: A knowledge, attitudes and practices survey
2019
peer-reviewed Background Addressing Citizen’s perspectives on homelessness is crucial for the design of effective and durable policy responses, and available research in Europe is not yet substantive. Perceived effectiveness, restrictiveness and compliance with containment measures against the Covid-19 pandemic: an international comparative study i…
2021
National governments took action to delay the transmission of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) by implementing different containment measures. We developed an online survey that included 44 different containment measures. We aimed to assess how effective citizens perceive these measures, which measures are perceived as violation of citizens’ personal freedoms, which opinions and demographic factors have an effect on compliance with the measures, and what governments can do to most effectively improve citizens’ compliance. The survey was disseminated in 11 countries: UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, India, Latvia, Poland, Romania, and Sweden. We acquired 9543 unique r…
Observed and relative survival and 5-year outcomes of patients discharged after acute myocardial infarction: the nationwide AMI-PL database.
2020
Background: Long‑term follow‑up data from a large Polish acute myocardial infarction (AMI‑PL) database are still unavailable. Aims: This study aimed to assess the 5‑year outcomes of patients discharged after hospitalization for AMI in Poland in relation to age. Methods: The studywas based on the nationwide AMI‑PL registry including data on the management and long‑term outcomes of all patients admitted to hospitals with AMI (codes I21–I22 according to the International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th Revision [ICD ‑10]), derived from the database of the obligatory healthcare payer in Poland. The current analysis included all patients after AMI who were discharged …
Updated 24-year trend of Type 1 diabetes incidence in children in Poland reveals a sinusoidal pattern and sustained increase
2017
AIMS To present the incidence trend for Type 1 diabetes in Polish children aged 0-14 years, updated using data collected during 2005-2012, and assess the reliability of the predictive model constructed previously using the 1989-2004 database. METHODS Children aged < 15 years with newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetes are recorded prospectively (EURODIAB criteria) in several regional registers in Poland. Age- and gender-standardized incidence rates for Type 1 diabetes were calculated per 100 000 persons/year. Incidence rates were analysed in terms of the dependency on age, gender, geographical region and population density. Incidence rate trends over time were modelled using generalized linear mod…
