Factors influencing hospital infection control policies in Italian hospitals

2003

A study was undertaken to determine the resources available in Italian hospitals for the control of nosocomial infections and the factors favouring a successful approach. During January-May 2000 a questionnaire about infection control was sent to the hospital health director of all Italian National Health System hospitals treating acute patients and with more than 3500 admissions in 1999. An active programme was defined as a hospital infection control committee (HICC) meeting at least four times in 1999, the presence of a doctor with infection control responsibilities, a nurse employed in infection control and at least one surveillance activity and one infection control guideline issued or …

Public Services and Migrant Minors in Italy. Redefining skill for social work.

2015

The increased presence of foreign minors in Italy demands the country to rethink and undertake a general reorganization of public social services, still responding more to emergency situations rather than promoting preventive interventions. The analysis of laws and policies on migrant integration shows how the increasing presence of migrant families with minors requires, first of all, a change in the legislative system. Moreover, the urgency for a significant investment in the training of social workers is felt, in particular on the methodologies used and the intercultural competencies required for the analyses of needs and the planning of interventions. In brief, a reorganization of welfar…

MIGRATIONS: A GLOBAL WELFARE CHALLENGE. POLICIES, PRACTICES AND CONTEMPORARY VULNERABILITIES

2018

The construction of immigrants and immigration/refugees and asylum seekers is something that fit onto some specific stereotypes that facilitates a conservative discourse against this natural human mobility right. This book intends to offer more thinking tools to understand the nature of human mobility and why states needs to rethink about their conservative rights targeting it. Solidarities within European boundaries and with the rest of the world form a key aspect of democratic societies. Therefore these solidarities must be investigated in relation to the main issues of migrants, but also to all rights that the States could recognized to migrants as persons and legal subject.

Tunisian start up support systems : what challenges facing young graduates entrepreneurs? : Sfax case study

2015

In this dissertation we identify the determinants of the longevity and the probability of survival of small businesses created by young graduates benefiting from bank loans at enhanced rates. The focus is on the policy impact of public support for the creation of companies. The data are based on a survey conducted in 2013 under the tutelage of the University of Sfax (Tunisia) of a cohort of 160 companies five years after they were first formed. The response rate was 81.25%. After discussing the issue of the survival of newly-established companies and the factors that promote their survival, we use duration models specifically the Cox model (1972). This analysis allows us to shed light on a …

Association between climate and new daily diagnoses of COVID-19

2020

AbstractBackgroundAlthough evidence is accumulating that climate conditions may positively or negatively influence the scale of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreaks, uncertainty remains concerning the real impact of climate factors on viral transmission. Methods. The number of new daily cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in Verona (Italy) was retrieved from the official website of Veneto Region, while information on daily weather parameters in the same area was downloaded from IlMeteo website, a renowned Italian technological company specialized in weather forecasts. The search period ranged between March 1 to November 11, 2020. The number of new daily COVID-19 cases and meteorological da…
