Let's End HepC: modelling public health epidemiological policies applied to Hepatitis C in Spain

2022

Background: The WHO has defined international targets toward the elimination of hepatitis C by 2030. Most countries cannot be on track to achieve this goal unless many challenges are surpassed. The Let's End HepC (LEHC) tool aims to contribute to the control of hepatitis C. The innovation of this tool combines the modelling of public health policies (PHP) focused on hepatitis C with epidemiological modelling of the disease, obtaining a unique result that allows to forecast the impact of policy outcomes. The model was applied to several countries, including Spain. Methods: To address the stated objective, we applied the “Adaptive Conjoint Analysis” for PHP decision-making and Markov Chains in…

Disclosure of duplicative studies: damned if you don't

2012

Duplicative publication requires duplicative editorializing. There are many forms of lesser redundancy such as unacknowledged secondary analyses of randomized clinical trials, fragmentation of studies with concurrent submission to various journals, and serial updating of observational studies. These practices result in publication bias. We have revised our instructions to authors to include disclosure of similar articles that are published, in press, or submitted to other journals to the editors upon submission.

Qualidade docente e eficácia escolar

2008

Socio-cultural lock-ins and the difficulty of sustainability transition in fertilization : response to Struckman

2021

This commentary discusses the socio-cultural context of farming and proposes ways to break related lock-ins in the context of sustainability transition research. To be able to change farming practices and design policies to promote the changes, it is essential to understand what actually needs to change. Do we need to change the ways farmers think, the ways that food markets operate, the requirements of plant varieties or the requirements related to protecting water quality? In a complex situation the needed change emerges from the intertwinement of many different issues, which simultaneously work to create the locked-in situation. A focus on people and their practices provides a good start…

Vulnerability in Migration: The Applicability of European Recommendations, International Reports and Guidelines to the Italian System of Reception an…

2018

The European Parliament’s Report focuses on the integration processes for a particular category of refugees, considered as belonging to “vulnerable groups”, namely women seeking international protection and female refugees. Women seeking international protection or refugees, in fact, are bearers of demands and needs which, in part, are specific to all those people who, often forced to abruptly abandon their countries of origin, seek protection in host countries, bringing with themselves a heavy burden of persecution, war, violence and poverty. The humanitarian response along the routes of the eastern Mediterranean and the western Balkans has set as a priority the introduction of measures to…

Resilience and Convergence: Short vs.Long-Run Regional Effects of Economic Crises and Macroeconomic Policies

2020

Before the outbreak of the Great Recession, considerable attention was devoted to what makes a region successful, and why some regions grow faster than others, but researchers often overlooked how regions react to shocks and why this happens in a heterogeneous way. Furthermore, the classic literature on regional inequalities has mainly focused on the longterm relationship between economic growth and regional disparities and on the role of labor mobility, sometimes also as a mechanism of adjustment to labor demand idiosyncratic shocks. This literature trend has reversed since 2008, when investigation of the heterogeneous impact of shocks across areas became prominent in regional studies beca…

Reti, Nuovi Settori e Sostenibilità

2014
