Local electrochemical impedance spectroscopy study of the influence of ageing in air and laser shock processing on the micro-electrochemical behaviou…
2011
International audience; In the present paper, the micro-electrochemical behaviour of AA2050-T8 in 0.1 M NaCl was first studied after polishing by means of local electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and field-emission scanning electron microscopy/electron dispersive spectroscopy (FE-SEM/EDS). The influence of ageing in air and LSP was then investigated. Ageing in air for three months led to an increase in the charge transfer resistance. This was clearly observed in sites surrounding constituent particles where the charge transfer resistance was in the order of 1 MΩ cm2 (instead of 10-3 MΩ cm2 after polishing). Increased passivity around particles was confirmed from FE-SEM/EDS analysis. On …
Reactive Element (Y,Ce) Effect on Stresses Determined In-Situ during Iron Oxidation at 800°C
2001
In-situ stress determinations by X-ray diffraction have been performed during pure iron oxidation (p(O 2 ) = 2 x 10 -3 Pa, T = 800°C). On yttrium implanted specimens the stress level is close to zero before oxidation. On CeO 2 coated specimens, the initial compressive stress due to surface polishing is not modified by the coating. During oxidation, the in-situ compressive stress value determined in the Fe (1-x) O scale, is not strongly dependent upon the reactive element nature. Nevertheless, the stress evolution during cooling and residual stresses determined after cooling to room temperature are very different. Blank and CeO 2 coated specimens show relatively high compressive stresses whe…
Effect of different polishing techniques on surface roughness and bacterial adhesion of three glass ionomer-based restorative materials : in vitro st…
2020
Background Although many reports concluded that polishing of glass ionomers is crucial for smoother surface and limiting the adhesion of cariogenic bacteria, there is no specific surface treatment protocol recommended. A novel material in the same category was released recently claimed to have surface smoothness comparable to resin composite and bacterial adhesion less than other types of glass ionomers. In this study, different polishing systems were tested with three glass ionomers one of them is the novel material to find the most appropriate polishing protocol. Objectives: To evaluate and compare the surface roughness and bacterial adhesion to resin modified glass ionomer, bioactive ion…
Effects of three different bleaching agents on microhardness and roughness of composite sample surfaces finished with different polishing techniques
2017
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to evaluate effects of different polishing methods and whitening agents on surface hardness and roughness of nano-hybrid composite resin. MATERIAL AND METHODS In total, one hundred twenty disc-shaped specimens were prepared to nano-hybrid composite (Charisma Diamond). 60 samples were used for microhardness measurements and the others were used for the evaluation of surface roughness. Samples were divided randomly into two subgroups (n = 30 each). In first group a low-viscosity liquid polishing agent (Biscover LV) was applied. In the second group, nothing was applied. All the samples were stored in distilled water at 37°C for 24 h. After initial measureme…
Influence of the microstructure on the corrosion behaviour of low-carbon martensitic stainless steel after tempering treatment
2014
Abstract The microstructure of grade X4CrNiMo16.5.1 stainless steel was studied at different scales. The chemical composition of the native passive film formed on the different phases was then determined at the microscale. The degree of homogeneity of the native passive film is discussed. Subsequently, the susceptibility to pitting corrosion of X4CrNiMo16.5.1 was quantified using the electrochemical microcell technique. The nature of precursor sites and the morphology of pits were investigated by combining scanning electron microscopy with Electron BackScatter Diffraction and potentiostatic pulse tests. The role of the microstructure and the cold-worked layer generated by polishing in pitti…
MgO surface microstructure and crystalline coherence of Co/Pt superlattices
1998
We report the growth of Co/Pt(111) superlattices sputtered onto MgO(111) substrates of different surface quality. Long-range structural coherence in the Pt-seed layers and the superlattices could only be obtained on specially re-polished substrates. In seed layers and superlattices grown on miscut re-polished substrates suppression of abc versus acb stacking was observed.
Electropolishing of CuZn brasses and 316L stainless steels: Influence of alloy composition or preparation process (ALM vs. standard method)
2016
International audience; In the present paper, electropolishing behavior of different brass alloys (CuZn39Pb2, CuZn42) in phosphoric acid is studied to observe the impact of alloying elements on polishing quality. In the same way, the influence of the manufacturing process is also evaluated through the comparison of a “standard” stainless steel and a stainless steel prepared by Additive Laser Manufacturing (ALM). An electrochemical study was first performed to determine the best treatment conditions for each material/electrolyte pair and to study the electropolishing mechanism and its kinetic dependence on diffusion. Metallic samples are fully characterized before and after electropolishing …
Anti-tempered Layered Adaptive Importance Sampling
2017
Monte Carlo (MC) methods are widely used for Bayesian inference in signal processing, machine learning and statistics. In this work, we introduce an adaptive importance sampler which mixes together the benefits of the Importance Sampling (IS) and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) approaches. Different parallel MCMC chains provide the location parameters of the proposal probability density functions (pdfs) used in an IS method. The MCMC algorithms consider a tempered version of the posterior distribution as invariant density. We also provide an exhaustive theoretical support explaining why, in the presented technique, even an anti-tempering strategy (reducing the scaling of the posterior) can …
Time-Dependent Multiple Depot Vehicle Routing Problem on Megapolis Network under Wardrop's Traffic Flow Assignment
2018
In this work multiple depot vehicle routing problem is considered in case of variable travel times between nodes on a metropolis network. This variant of the classic multiple depot vehicle routing problem is motivated by the fact that in urban contexts variable traffic conditions play an essential role and can not be ignored in order to perform a realistic optimization. Time-travel matrices corresponding to each period of planning horizon were formed by solving the traffic assignment problem in conjunction with shortest path problem. Routing problem instances include from 20 to 100 customers randomly chosen from a road network of Saint-Petersburg. The results demonstrate that taking into ac…
