Legal aspects of forensic DNA analysis in Germany

DNA analysis may be carried out in cases of civil law (e.g., in cases of disputed paternity) as well as of criminal law (e.g., a case of murder). This overview will concentrate on DNA analysis in the context of criminal law. DNA typing of forensic stain samples is generally carried out in laboratories of the Police and of University Institutes of Legal Medicine. The police laboratories are usually part of the State Criminal Offices (Landeskriminalamt, LKA) or of the central Federal Criminal Office (Bundeskriminalamt, BKA). Current knowledge regarding interventions for reducing loneliness in randomised controlled trials (RCTs) is conflicting. The aim of the present work is to provide an overview of interventions to reduce loneliness, using an umbrella review of previously published systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Dismantling the rhetoric of alternative medicine: Smokescreens, errors, conspiracies, and follies

Alternative medicine is popular, and one of the reasons for this phenomenon is that it is relentlessly being promoted with the use of a wide range of fallacies, arguments which appear to be logic and true but which turn out on closer inspection to be illogical and false. In this article, I use my experience in alternative medicine research to discuss some of the most commonly employed fallacies. I conclude that they are used by proponents of alternative medicine to mislead the public such that even the most extravagant absurdities appear plausible. Collectively these fallacies constitute attacks upon rationality and progress in healthcare.

Kvale and colleagues examine the logics of Norwegian government initiatives to respond to social inequalities in health. Whereas the individualist logic favors bounded and specialized measures and organization, the collectivist logic favors broad approaches and organizational coordination. Couples share similar changes in depressive symptoms and marital satisfaction anticipating the birth of a child

The birth of a child is a demanding family life situation. This longitudinal study investigated to what extent spouses' depressive symptoms and marital dissatisfaction associated with pregnancy and childbirth (and their changes over time) were characteristic of the spousal relationship and/or the individual spouses. Pregnant women (N= 320) and their spouses (N = 259) were examined twice before and twice following childbirth. Results indicated that changes in depressive symptoms and marital satisfaction during pregnancy were characteristic of the spousal relationship, whereas changes after birth were characteristic of both the relationship and the individual spouses.
